Associate Director of Planned Giving (Administrator I) - DEADLINE EXTENDED

Overview:
The Associate Director of Planned Giving reports to the Director of Planned Giving, in close cooperation with the Associate Vice President for Development, and is a member of the University Advancement team. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Director with managing and facilitating the creation of deferred and outright gifts to Fresno State by working in partnership with prospects, donors, financial and legal professionals, development staff and campus leadership. The Associate Director, in partnership with the Director, will plan and implement development, outreach and solicitation strategies on behalf of Fresno State, including providing staff support to one or more volunteer and donor groups.

Planned and deferred giving is a growing area for Fresno State under the leadership of the Director of Planned Giving. This position will play a key role in networking with financial and legal professionals, outreach to emeriti faculty and staff and working in partnership with the development team.

Compensation:
The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.

The anticipated hiring salary range is $60,000 - $68,000.

Position Summary:

The major duties of the job include:

Participate as a member of the central development team and provides recommendations and input on progress towards reaching and identifying new advancement goals;

Liaison to Campus Units: Collaborates with Management, Faculty, staff and other Senior Administrators to identify projects for private fundraising;

Create deferred and outright gifts obtained by working with prospects, donors, allied professionals, development staff and other members of the Fresno State community;

Cultivate prospects and donors for the purpose of negotiating and closing charitable life income arrangements, bequests, and outright gifts;

Provide technical support to donors, their advisors, other outside allied professionals, faculty and staff, and University Development staff on the structuring, benefits and implications of various planned gift arrangements;

Assist in educating development staff, volunteers and University leaders on the principles and techniques of planned giving;

Assist in researching, developing and marketing planned gift opportunities to alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Fresno State;

Assist with the recruitment and stewardship of Heritage Society members;

Prospect Identification: Frequently review annual giving records, public information and volunteer suggestions for likely gift prospects;

Prospect Qualification: Frequently meet with prospects to assess their capacity and propensity for gifts; conduct ongoing research and collect and compile background information on potential contributors to the University.

Prospect Cultivation: Frequently plan and implement strategic steps to move prospects toward a gift decision; Prospect Solicitation: Frequently develop and present annual and major gift proposals to prospects;

Donor Stewardship: Regularly interact with donors to ensure good stewardship of gifts received;

Special Events: Occasionally organize and present special events designed to engage prospects;

Secondary duties of the job include:

Develop printed materials such as newsletters, brochures, invitations as well as develop electronic media, social media to advance overall advancement activities.

Development and University Advancement Support: Occasionally work on projects not directly related to fundraising at the direction of the Associate Vice President for Development;

University wide representation: Occasionally work on projects outside of the assigned division as directed by the Associate Vice President for Development;

Support and/or lead fundraising efforts for mini-campaigns and comprehensive campaigns.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of campaign and fundraising best practices, trends, tools and technology including applicable guidelines and compliance requirements.

Knowledge of principles and practices of university administration, organization and operations.

Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Excel and PowerPoint).

Demonstrated track record in working with individuals and groups, ability to work as a member of a team, recognition of the importance of education to individuals and society as a whole;

Excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills;

Highly motivated and proven self-starter, creative and entrepreneurial characteristics;

Capacity to inspire confidence, trust and cooperation with an ability to work independently as well as with a team; Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;

Ability to develop, analyze and evaluate program information and provide data for review in developing and implementing strategies to enhance processes and meet programmatic goals.

Organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and projects under competing deadlines and maintain flexibility in response to constantly shifting priorities.

Ability to confer with and advise management on complex and sensitive issues, prepare and present reports or information with reliable conclusions and recommendations.

Collaborate with others to help advance the goals of the department and university. Show courtesy and respect towards others and promote a positive and service oriented collegial work environment.

Ability to serve as a resource in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information concerning campus news and events.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required from a regionally accredited institution;

Minimum of two (2) years of successful fundraising experience or professional experience with transferable skills such as sales, marketing, public relations, financial, or legal services;

Experience with a nonprofit organization;

History of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience/background in higher education;

Experience with alumni/donor databases and campus applications such as Advance;

Experience with capital/comprehensive campaigns and/or specific experience in major gift solicitation.
