Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
The Livermore Library serves as the reference, research, and information center of the University. It supports the students, faculty, and staff by assisting with academic programs, student and faculty research, and institutional research projects. The library also plays a key role in undergraduate and graduate education, providing frontline instruction in research and information literacy, particularly within general education.

Primary Purpose of Position:
This Library Assistant position in Technical Services focuses on acquisitions and cataloging. The role involves acquiring materials, processing orders, and ensuring accurate cataloging. The assistant also maintains catalog records and manages metadata to support efficient resource access, ensuring the library's collections are organized and up to date.

Job Description:
  • Process prints and electronic invoices using Alma, ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions.
  • Perform copy cataloging for physical materials in all formats, including books, media, and other items, ensuring accurate metadata and classification.
  • Perform batch editing and loading of electronic resources, ensuring metadata consistency and access through the library's systems.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of digital objects, ensuring proper metadata creation and preservation.
  • Process all incoming physical materials, including labeling, barcoding, and preparing them for circulation.
  • Evaluate materials for damage and determine appropriate action, including repairs or recommending replacements.
  • Perform minor repairs on damaged materials as needed and make recommendations for replacements.
  • Handle the Technical Services projects as needed.
