Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $75,000 - $78,000/year.
Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $69,500 - $123,500/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Specializes in assisting students with a broad range of psychological conditions. Ensure that students with a broad range of permanent and temporary disabilities, including but not limited to: psychological disabilities, ADHD, learning disabilities, and medical conditions are afforded equal access to education, university sponsored programs while fostering a campus culture of inclusivity. Interpret neurological, psychological, educational assessments, and medical documentation to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with a broad range of disabilities. Counsel and advise students regarding disability management, including responding to students in a crisis state. Provide referrals to appropriate campus and community resources. Consult with University Deans, ADA Compliance Coordinator, and other staff members regarding academic adjustments for students with a broad range of disabilities. Develop and assist with the coordination of DSP programs to support students. Educate the campus community on disability-related issues.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Counseling/Clinical Psychology, Special Education, Disabilities Studies
1-3 years Higher Education setting conducting analysis and determination of academic accommodations
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations.
Thorough knowledge of procedures for assessing and determining disability accommodation issues, including the Disability Compliance Office procedures.
Thorough knowledge of assessment, accommodation, and intervention techniques involved in employee's specialty, for example, learning disorders, mobility disability, visual impairment, etc.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- Counsel and Advise Students - 40%: Assess students' academic and disability-related impacts by interpreting diagnostic reports, assessments, and/or psycho-educational evaluations for students with a broad range of disabilities. Specialize in working with students impacted by psychological and neurodivergent conditions while maintaining a generalist model caseload. Offers guidance and instruction regarding compensatory strategies and techniques to ensure students have equal access to the academic environment. Provide counseling and advising to students regarding the impact of disabling conditions, strategies to compensate for disability, and additional care needed, i.e., counseling, medical care, and psychiatric treatment, to maximize success and manage disability. Assist students with coordinating assistance and connection to other resources.
Maintain a current resource list relevant to students, including treatment options, educational opportunities, supports, and services. Respond to students in a crisis state. Based on behavior and symptoms, determine the appropriate course of action. Applies current crisis response tools and techniques. Cultivates contacts at appropriate campus resources to ensure students in crisis connect to appropriate contacts. Advise and refer students to appropriate campus resources.
- Analysis and Assessment - 30%: Responsible for interpreting documentation from physicians, educational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other medical professionals. Approve accommodations and provide direct support services to students with disabilities. Consults with supervisor and specialists on a wide range of complex accommodation issues related to disabilities. Conducts individual assessment via intake and gathers collateral information as needed to determine appropriate academic accommodations and auxiliary services. Establish and document the nexus between requested academic accommodations and disability-related functional limitations. Thoroughly documents bases for accommodation decisions. Ensures timeliness of applicant review, eligibility determination, and review of student requests.
Implements decisions that can impact university compliance and liability under federal and state disability laws and regulations.
Coordinate with DSP Staff, Faculty, Teaching Assistants, and departmental representatives to ensure students are afforded appropriate accommodations and equal access. Stay current on general aspects of Adaptive & Assistive technology. Refer DSP students to ATS as appropriate. Maintain networks with Disabilities Specialists at other UC campuses by participating in regular conference calls. Serve on UC-wide committees to develop, evaluate, and revise Guidelines for the assessment and documentation of students with Disabilities.
- Program Coordination, Development, & Evaluation - 25%: Develop, Coordinate, implement and evaluate specific programs to support students with disabilities. Develop, Coordinate, implement and evaluate specific programs to address campus-wide needs and faculty concerns. Serve on interdepartmental committees/organizations. Assists with program evaluation, identifying external funding opportunities, grant writing & renewals. Responsible for ongoing professional development training and participation in professional organizations and maintains awareness of current policies and practices as it pertains to working with college students with disabilities (AHEAD, DSSHE listserv, etc.). Coordinate annual New Student Orientation with other Disability Specialists for all incoming students on caseload.
- Consultation and Advocacy - 5%: Make recommendations to undergraduate and graduate Deans in the College of Letters and Sciences, College of Engineering, and College of Creative Studies regarding appropriate academic adjustments for students based on disability, i.e., deficit course load, time to degree and role of disability in academic difficulties. Consult with the ADA Compliance Coordinator, Housing and Residential Services representatives, the Dean of Students Office, and community and campus mental health professionals to determine appropriate accommodations and course of action for students with Psychological disabilities whose symptoms are worsening. Explain to faculty, teaching assistants, parents, and university staff what information is needed to document disabilities and how academic accommodations are determined. Provide consultations to UCSB staff and faculty who encounter students displaying behaviors that may indicate a psychological disability.
