JOB DESCRIPTION

The Research Assistant will aid two research efforts by conducting literature reviews, participating in interviews, analyzing responses from interviews and surveys, and supporting the organization of stakeholder workshops.

First, to assist with a study of how stakeholders learn from models that link climate risks to food, energy, and water systems. This is part of an NSF funded project to identify and evaluate response options to extreme weather in the context of engineered and natural infrastructure. A suite of integrated models is being used to investigate how a) limits imposed on engineered and natural infrastructure arising from climate extremes will impact individual FEWS components as well as their linkages and limit the overall performance of the coupled FEWS system in the northeastern and Midwest US and b) the impact of progressive climate change and its extremes can be attenuated by management decisions. The work with stakeholders will entail supporting a process with stakeholders for co-constructing scenarios representing combinations of engineered and natural infrastructure conducting dialogues to explore implications of management interventions to climate impacts in food, energy, and water systems and their trade-offs.

Second, to assist with a literature review of regional / inter-municipal climate adaptation planning efforts and collaborations and help analyze interviews with municipal planners that are part of a regional collaborative in the Mystic River Watershed of Massachusetts.
