  • Evidence of teaching experience and performance, including:
    • Teaching statement
    • Explanation of the teaching evaluation system and where the candidate ranks quantitatively in the system. Summaries of evaluations involving ratings as well as student comments can be included; similarly, summaries should be provided for peer evaluations and clinical evaluations, if forms are used for these.
  • Evidence of research experience and performance, including:
    • A list of all external research support with complete details of budget and sponsorship, and a statement of your role in each project;
    • A research statement with a statement of impact of your research/scholarly work to be the first paragraph of the statement
    • Summarize your independent research activity, the importance of your work in an area of programmatic interest to the UMSN and to the Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Health in relation to the expected role within the UMSN.
    • A statement from the principal investigator(s) who will be providing salary support for the candidate indicating support for the research associate professor rank and term of appointment.
  • Service statement
  • Copy of your doctoral degree and any certifications (if applicable)
  • A list of a minimum of three (3) professional references with relevant contact information
  • Copies of three (3) to five (5) publications of your best work (usually peer-reviewed)
  • Be prepared to provide a list of no more than (3) three names of arm's length external reviewers who may be willing to provide recommendations upon inquiry to the associate dean for faculty affairs and faculty development.

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking a highly qualified faculty member for a full time position with our Department of Systems, Populations and Leadership and the Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Health (DASH Center). Applicants should have an active program of research with the potential for substantial impact in the area of population health and substance use, particularly among vulnerable populations.

Required Qualifications*
  • A research doctorate (PhD) in the social sciences, nursing, or a related field is required.
  • For nursing PhD's, a current MI nursing license is required or eligibility for a nursing license in the state of Michigan.
  • For non-nurses, a clinical degree in social work, clinical psychology, medicine or a related clinical field is required.
  • Strong local and national reputation on the basis of research productivity and contributions over several years.
  • Substantial record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Significant, sustained participation in relevant academic or professional meetings.
  • Demonstrated research productivity; the ability to conduct independent research and secure funding.
  • Substantial and current research funding from the National Institutes of Health and/or other federal or foundation funding as Principal Investigator
  • Expertise in substance use, mental health, reproductive health and adolescent risk behaviors.
  • Demonstrated skill in working with interdisciplinary research teams.
  • A record of grant reviewing for National Institutes of Health and/or other federal or foundation
  • Demonstrated expertise in secondary data analysis with national studies, with a record of publications using extant national databases.
  • A record of substantial non-didactic teaching and mentoring of postdoctoral fellows, junior research colleagues, or students at any level within the context of one or more research fields.
  • Substantial record of academic, professional and community service.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums. You will be expected to have solid interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with diverse groups, and a drive to excel.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects is required.
  • Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s) and/or research site(s).
