Position Summary
Big Bend Community College invites applications for Associate (part-time) Faculty positions in the college's Transitional Studies Department. BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

This position is responsible to prepare and teach courses in Pre-College Mathematics. This position reports to the Dean of Transitional Studies and works closely with the Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $723.49per lecture credit.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with the chair of department.
  • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule.
  • Assist students with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
  • Maintain frequent communication with their students.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Administer pre- & post-CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) exams to every student enrolled in course and capture results in WABERS (Washington Adult Basic Education Reporting System).
  • Maintain and submit grades, attendance reports, WABERS intake forms, and other specific BEdA (Basic Education for Adults) documentation to college personnel at the end of each quarter.
  • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.
  • Design and implement instruction that facilitates achievement of established learning outcomes for assigned courses.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback.
  • Demonstrate multicultural understanding and foster equity.
  • Maintain positive and effective communications with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and function as a contributing member of the campus community.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support; safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
  • Follow college policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws such as FERPA.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

At the time of application, the candidate must possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Business, Education, Training, K-12 teaching and/or related fields.
  • Experience teaching mathematics.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience maintaining records to document and/or update information in written or electronic form.
  • Special Requirement: Certification as a CASAS Proctor (or ability to obtain within 1 week of hire).

Additional Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at a community college within the previous three years.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience using innovative teaching techniques.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
