Position Information

Hiring Department: Facilities Management

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: 8/1/2024

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Essential Functions

Repairs, installs, replaces, cleans, inspects and performs preventative maintenance of plumbing systems such as domestic hot and cold water, air systems, sewage, storm drains, gas appliances, water heaters without direct supervision.



Installs and maintains valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sewer piping, water piping, storm lines, water closets, urinals, pumps, water heaters, gas piping, and furnaces.

Free from obstruction clogged pipe, lines, or other plumbing systems.



Cut and thread steel pipe and solder or braze copper pipe.



Perform related duties as assign by the plumbing supervisor,



Assists with ordering materials and parts.



Uses a computerized maintenance management system with work orders to allocate time and document work on a daily basis.



Inspects the work of others for code compliance.

Supervises and coordinates activities of the plumbing staff in conjunction with and in the absence of the Plumber Supervisor.



Prepares and assigns work schedules, on-call rotations and work assignments for subordinates.



Responds to on-call emergencies before/during/after normal hours of operation.



Assists in reviewing blueprints, building codes and specifications to determine work details, procedures, including ADA standards and methods.



Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to supervisor before submitting to work control system.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED

and

Experience: Five years of verified experience in skilled journeyman-level plumbing. . Ability to obtain a Backflow Preventer License within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master Plumber License and Backflow Preventer License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, work order systems and be able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to identify and resolve personnel issues. Motivate employees to perform above expectations.



Knowledge and experience to identify quickly analyze emergency situations, actions, and events. Identify information by categorizing, prioritizing, recognizing differences / similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
