GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advance of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population. Instructors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

1. Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR
2. Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR
3. the equivalent.
If you are applying based on "the equivalent", you must complete a Full-Time Academic Equivalency Form EQUIVALENCY MATERIALS. This form MUST be submitted as part of the application procedures

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must demonstrate:
1. Teaching and/or administrative experience in an early childhood program.
2. The academic preparation for and successful experience in designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs and interests of historically underrepresented students.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with first-generation college students using multi-modal approaches and student-centered pedagogy.
4. Community college teaching experience in the areas of child development theory and curriculum.
5. Relevant coursework and/or experience integrating culturally relevant curricula into the classroom.
6. Ability and willingness to seek outside funding sources and prepare funding proposals for Child Development projects and instruction.
7. Ability and willingness to integrate Child Development instructional program with the Child Development Center.
8. Experience collaborating with faculty or community leaders in programs or initiatives that are specifically designed to help historically underrepresented students achieve their educational goals.
9. Ability to instruct and motivate students with differing needs and abilities from a variety of cultural, socioeconomic and language backgrounds.
10. Holds a Master Teacher level permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing or is eligible to obtain one within six months.
11. Experience with online teaching and course management systems such as Canvas.

Preferred Qualifications:
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Candidates will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:

1. Preparation to develop a computer assisted curriculum, to use computer technology in an instructional setting and a willingness to assume leadership in this task.
2. Evidence of involvement with professional and community related projects and organizations.
3. Commitment to keeping current on issues involving the field of Child Development.
4. Ability and desire to recruit and retain students from nontraditional and under-represented populations.
5. Ability to work effectively with colleagues.
6. Commitment to participation in campus committees and activities.
