TITLE: Accounting Associate
POSITION SUMMARY
The overall purpose of this position is to assist with preparing accounting records for the College and to assist department deans and managers with accounting related functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare journal entries in support of expense allocations, accruals and other routine financial transactions;
Prepare and analyze various spreadsheets monthly for revenue collection and billing;
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries into accounts, such as general ledger accounts;
Prepare invoices related to contracts for the entire college;
Reconcile expense/revenue accounts;
Provide variance explanations and supporting documentation for accounting entries and contract invoicing requested by vendors, department deans, managers and contractors;
Manage Accounts Payable mailbox, including routing invoices to appropriate parties and communicating between vendors and department deans and managers;
Research and solve discrepancies on invoices for Accounts Payable to ensure timely payments to vendors;
Assist with open purchase order listing reconciliations;
Oversee utility payments for the College;
Document business transactions;
Assist the Director of Accounting & External Reporting with various analysis, reports and duties;
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in accounting
Five (5) years' progressive accounting experience, including maintaining or reviewing financial records and reconciling accounts
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application, as well as an understanding of applicable Federal and State laws.
Logical problem-solving skills for researching and reconciling accounts
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in higher education
Advanced ability to analyze, summarize and present data clearly to various constituencies
Advanced critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently, self-starter
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Intermediate computer skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
RATE OF PAY: $19.41 - $23.29 per hour depending on experience
