Position Announcement

Summary of Responsibilities

Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of teaching that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, lectures, field trips, individualized instruction, on-line instruction, and other appropriate instructional methods.
Prepares instructional materials (i.e. exams, visual aids, course outlines, syllabi, and instruction sheets) as necessary. Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests.
Establishes and maintains office hours and assists department chair, faculty, department staff, and advisers in maintaining an effective program.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in Criminal Justice field required.
Minimum three years in industry experience in Criminal Justice related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD degree or equivalent in Criminal Justice or a Master's Degree with five years of teaching in Criminal Justice in higher education.
Experience teaching in higher education or program development.
Minimum six years industry experience in Criminal Justice related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable:
Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Law, and research methods.
Knowledge of subject matter, trends, and course content pertinent to Criminal Justice.
Knowledge of online and classroom teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.

Skills

Different teaching modality.
Interpersonal and written communication skills.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Curriculum development skills.
Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors.
