Job Summary:

Associate Professor of Surgery -
Liver, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Surgeon

The Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, Board eligible, fellowship-trained transplant surgeon with expertise in liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation. Primary responsibilities will be at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as well as nearby University of Colorado Hospital.

Duties of this faculty position will include participation in; kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation, pediatric liver and kidney transplant, major liver surgeries as well as organ recovery using perfusion technologies and dialysis access surgery. Other activities of the transplant surgeon include clinical care, immunosuppression management, surgical rounds, transplant selection committees and educational conferences. This individual will also be expected to actively participate in clinical research activities related to transplantation on an ongoing basis. The Associate Professor role will also help in academic activities including teaching medical students, residents, fellows and related service duties and call coverage. Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate.

Clinical Operations Director of the Transplant Center:
In addition, administrative role will focus on optimizing clinical workflows, aligning operations with regulatory and institutional requirements, and advancing strategic initiatives to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality transplant care. This role will be salary support, and will involve administrative duties on top of the Associate Professor duties. This role is a one-year appointment and is eligible for renewal at the discretion of the Chief of Transplant Surgery at your one-year review.

Associate Professor Key Responsibilities:
  • Participation in adult and pediatric kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation.
  • Organ procurement call and recovery using perfusion technologies.
  • Clinical care, immunosuppression management, surgical rounds, transplant selection committees and educational conferences.
  • Clinical research activities related to transplantation on an ongoing basis.


Clinical Operations Director of the Transplant Center Key responsibilities:
  • Provide operational oversight for the Transplant Center's clinical activities
  • Support the Medical and Surgical Directors in the coordination of multidisciplinary teams, compliance, and performance improvement
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and reporting requirements (e.g., OPTN/UNOS, CMS, Joint Commission)
  • Support implementation of new technologies, procedures, and innovation
  • Lead quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and performance outcomes, including morbidity and mortality review and corrective action planning.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an Associate Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
  • 6-10 years of experience
  • Medical Degree from an accredited School of Medicine
  • Completion of transplant fellowship in liver, kidney and pancreas at an accredited Transplant Center
  • Eligibility for Board Certification - must complete boards within 2 years


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with robotic renal and liver procedures
  • Experience with DCD organ recovery
  • Experience in ex-vivo perfusion
  • Experience with normothermic regional perfusion
  • Expertise in health ethics and qualitative transplant research
  • Leadership and communication skills


Competencies Surgical Director, Clinical Operations of the Transplant Center:
  • Two plus years of clinical operations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the University of Colorado and UCHealth.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for the Associate Professor position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$466,500 to $691,000, plus productivity incentives when eligible.

The salary range (or hiring range) for the Clinical Operations Director of the Transplant Center position has been established at 0.3 FTE in salary support of the approved Associate Professor pay, this administrative appointment role will not be eligible for productivity incentives.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
