Job Summary

The Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Design at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Public Relations to begin August 2026. This full-time, non-tenure track position will teach three courses per semester and support the ongoing development of our Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communication curriculum. The position also requires a service obligation to the department and/or college that will be determined in consultation with the department chair. The position will be expected to maintain relationships with the public relations industry and generate professionalization opportunities for students, including internships and meeting PR practitioners. They may also help the department develop and oversee student participation in advertising and public relations awards and our student involvement in professional associations such as the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
We are looking for a teacher who can help us to continue to build our national reputation for graduating excellent public relations students. Applicants should have demonstrated experience and expertise in the practice of public relations.

The Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Design (APRD) is one of seven academic units in the College of Communication, Media, Design and Information (CMDI). APRD offers BS and PhD degrees in Strategic Communication as well as Professional Master's degrees in Strategic Communication Design and Corporate Communication.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


The effort distribution associated with this position is 75% teaching and 25% service. The successful candidate will teach three classes per semester in our undergraduate public relations curriculum. This position is also expected to encourage and to support student participation in local and national awards, internship opportunities, student involvement in professional associations, and student events run by CU, CMDI, and/or APRD.

The salary range for an Assistant Teaching Professor position is $75,000-$85,000.

What We Require

  • A master's degree in strategic communication, corporate communication, public relations, or closely aligned field.
  • Professional experience in public relations.
  • Experience teaching at the university level, including proven evidence of teaching quality.

  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate students and openness to creative interchange with colleagues.
  • Experience developing communications strategies for recognized organizations, corporations and/or brands, locally, nationally and/or internationally.
