Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Biology Department beginning August 2026.

Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.

*College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity, as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

Job Duties


The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Frontiers in Biology with lab and Plant Biology with lab, both of which are intended for non-science majors. Possible additional offerings depend on the expertise and preference of the successful candidate and could include other biology classes as determined by the college.

Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, active engagement with campus culture, participation in departmental responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity District wide.

Qualifications


The candidate must meet the following criteria.
  • Master's in any biological science OR
  • Bachelor's in biological science AND
  • Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, marine science, bioengineering, agricultural biology, or biomedical sciences OR
  • The equivalent.

JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY

The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Science Division / Biology Department is looking for evidence of the following:
  • Teaching experience in General Biology and Plant Biology/Botany for majors or non-majors.
  • Experience in designing and implementing biology lab experiences in a college classroom setting.
  • Experience with the community college environment and/or the culture of a primarily teaching institution.
  • Graduate and/or undergraduate coursework related to General Biology, Plant Biology/Botany, Animal Biology, Cell Biology, and Ecology.
  • Ability to incorporate student learning outcome objectives within courses and programs and willingness to use and develop stated objectives and measures.
  • Successful experience working with students from diverse backgrounds by a demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and by use of a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention.
  • Ability to make a positive contribution to the instructional program at College of the Sequoias by developing instructional activities, course syllabi, assessments, and other necessary materials.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the development of curriculum to ensure a consistent experience, intensity, and rigor for all students taking a class.

  • Two (2) recent letters of recommendation addressing pertinent experience or equivalent competencies. If submitting confidential recommendation letters from a third party, please have letters emailed to nancyy@cos.edu. Please do not submit a reference list in lieu of letters of recommendation.

Timeline: Application review will begin after the closing date. First-level interviews will take place on 03/25/26, and second-level interviews on 03/26/26.
