The University of Colorado's (CU) Office of Advancement manages and coordinates administrative functions that support the campus-based fundraising field staff. These functions include communications, data management, CRM operations, reporting & analytics, estate gift planning, gift processing, marketing, research, and other services. These centralized services place the institution in an optimal position to attract substantial support from the philanthropic sector.
The Salesforce Technical Administrator is a member of the CU Ascend Administration Team (CAAT), responsible for hands-on configuration and development within the university's Salesforce ecosystem. This position supports the delivery of scalable, reliable, and user-centered solutions across multiple Salesforce products, including Ascend, Sales Cloud, and Service Cloud.
This role requires strong admin capabilities and foundational Apex development skills. The ideal candidate will be eager to grow into more advanced development and architectural responsibilities over time. This position reports to the Solutions Architect and Team Manager and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.
Applicants must be Colorado residents or able to relocate to Colorado within a month of starting employment with University of Colorado System Administration.
The CU System Office of Advancement follows a "flexibility first" approach to work that defines how we manage and make use of in-person time. As a fully remote position within the state of Colorado, this role will work remotely with the exception of four separate callback weeks per year- when all our colleagues are expected to be together in the office. During callback weeks, this role is expected to work from the CU System office at 1800 Grant St. in Denver, Colorado. Any additional in-office time will be determined by this role's manager.
Please note, leadership may adjust in-office work requirements with a minimum of three months' notice before any change can be implemented.
Primary Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain Salesforce objects, fields, page layouts, validation rules, flows, and other declarative tools with direction and support from team leadership.
- Contribute to Apex development tasks including triggers, classes, and Lightning Web Components under guidance of senior technical staff.
- Manage user roles, profiles, permission sets, and security settings.
- Support data quality through automation, validation, and cleanup processes.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and QA coordination.
- Maintain platform documentation and contribute to release readiness.
- Assist with integration support and system optimization efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Participate in technical design discussions and propose scalable solutions.
- Support testing and deployment activities across environments.
- Contribute to end-user documentation and training materials.
- Engage in professional development to expand technical depth and architectural understanding.
Salary: The anticipated hiring range has been established at $105,000-$115,000.
CU System Administration takes into consideration a combination of the selected candidate's education, training and experience as it relates to the position, as well as the position's scope and complexity, internal pay equity and external market value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.

Minimum Qualifications:
Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications. You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. Education requirement may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with directly related experience.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Salesforce CRM system administrator.
- Salesforce Administrator Certification.
- Demonstrated experience with Apex development (e.g., coursework, projects, or professional contributions).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional Salesforce certifications (e.g., Platform App Builder, Advanced Admin).
- Experience with Salesforce Ascend or Education Data Architecture (EDA).
- Exposure to DevOps tools and practices (e.g., Gearset, CI/CD).
- Experience in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
- Interest in growing toward technical architecture or solution design.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of Salesforce administration and configuration.
- Foundational Apex development skills and willingness to grow in this area.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve platform issues independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and functional teams.
- Attention to detail and commitment to documentation and process standards.
- Ability to learn and apply new technologies and development practices.
- Interest in contributing to long-term system design and architecture.
Certifications:
- Salesforce Administrator Certification (required)
- Salesforce PD1 certification (preferred)
