What We're Looking For
The LHSON Chaplain and Coordinator of Student Ministries supports Baylor University in creating a vibrant, faith-formative Baylor nursing community. The LHSON Chaplain serves the spiritual needs of the LHSON students, faculty, and staff through pastoral care and spiritual guidance. The Chaplain will encourage students to pursue a life of purpose, meaning, leadership, and service as future nurses. They will coordinate student fellowship opportunities, teach chapel, assist with faith integration in nursing classes, and support nursing mission activities. Position is primarily located in Dallas with occasional travel to Waco.
A Masters Degree and ten year of relevant work experience is required. A Doctoral degree is preferred.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
- Provide pastoral care and spiritual guidance to the in-person and online LHSON students, with a focus on International and graduate students. They will meet with students by request or outreach from referral. They will meet 1-1, provide support, refer to resources, and follow-up. They will guide students in exploring their purpose as a future nurse and help students in social / faith areas. They will support students in finding / establishing church membership.
- Coordinate spiritual programming and fellowship opportunities for LHSON students, faculty and staff. They will solicit ideas, create opportunities reflective of interest/need, and actively involve students, faculty and staff in spiritually-formative activities. They will support the faith-focused student organizations at LHSON. They will also mentor the undergraduate class officer chaplains. They will also create / support opportunities for community service projects.
- Support LHSON events such as White Coat, Pinning, and Alumni events. They will also assist with Student Services programming such as Preview Day, Orientation, and smaller activities). They will also join in Parent activities and the monthly Parents in Prayer offerings.
- Support missional activities of LHSON and Baylor University. They will serve on the LHSON Mission Committee and will assist / coordinate / participate in mission trips. The Chaplain and Coordinator of Student Ministries will be the primary instructor for the Pre-Nursing Chapel course taught in Waco. They will provide chapel opportunities for Dallas students who need chapel credit. In addition, they may provide class support to LHSON faculty around content areas of expertise.
- Collaborate with relevant Baylor Offices (particularly Spiritual Life, Center for Global Engagements, and the Graduate School) and build relationships with key individuals to meet the faith needs of nursing students. They will facilitate faith-focused opportunities from Waco to Dallas for nursing students, faculty and staff. They will also build relationships with churches / college ministries to help students connect with faith opportunities in Dallas.
- Responsible for administrative processes for spiritual life at LHSON including reporting, assessment, compliance, and training.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission.
- Ability to comply with university policies.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
