Information Privacy Administrator

Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing or controlling activities to support patient care and related business practices in a manner that complies with HIPAA Privacy and Security guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, and other applicable laws.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate, negotiate, and execute Business Associate Agreements, Data Use Agreements, and other Privacy-related contracts as applicable.
  • Completes Privacy Impact Assessments to identify privacy risks, recommend actions to mitigate risks, and incorporate Privacy by Design into new processes and products.
  • Investigates privacy-related incidents and concerns, makes appropriate recommendations, and completes applicable risk mitigation and breach response activities.
  • Analyzes and documents compliance processes. Recommends enhancements to policies and procedures to improve privacy protections and compliance.
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding federal and state privacy requirements, and their impact on organizational needs and workflows.
  • Research and summarize applicable laws, regulations, and guidance as it pertains to university processes.
  • Serves as an expert resource in privacy issue analysis and resolution.
  • Participates in and leads strategic projects. Advances key issues and initiatives to completion.
  • Serves as a mentor to other Privacy team members.
  • Creates and administers training and education to enhance privacy awareness.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences
  • JD or master's degree in legal studies.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience negotiating and executing legal contracts.
  • CIPP, CHPC, or other privacy/security certifications are desired.
