Job Summary:
The RIDE Program in the College of Health Science and Public Health is currently seeking a .5 FTE (50%) Dental Lab Support Technician (Instructional Classroom and Support Technician 2) that works 12-months each year. The RIDE Program is a unique program in that it involves two Universities. The RIDE Program is an extension of the University of Washington School of Dentistry (UWSOD).
This part-time position reports to the RIDE Director, Operations Manager and the Simulation and Labs Manager.
The Dental Lab Support Technician must develop and foster strong and supportive working relationships both within EWU and externally with the UWSOD. The dental support technician will work closely with the Simulation and Labs Manager and will assist in the individualized and group instruction of students in their development of learning skills, and will work with faculty and instructors in preparing, modifying, and/or developing instructional programs, teaching aids, materials and equipment associated with classroom and laboratory instruction.
The salary for this position is $24,018 (minimum) up to $27,792. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of dental equipment and dental materials
- Work experience as a dental assistant, dental hygienist, dental lab technician or equivalent training
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet timelines and deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public

Job Duties:
Assist in the operation of preclinical laboratory and lecture courses
- Set up, prep, and take down skills labs, open lab practice sessions, and simulations.
- Operate audiovisual and simulation technology
- Instruct faculty in the operation of audiovisual and simulation technology
- Develop instructional programs, demonstration models and laboratory procedures in coordination with Lab Manager and UWSOD/EWU RIDE faculty.
- Coordinate preparation for laboratory programs and field-oriented courses using safety procedures in handling sharps.
- Demonstrate, instruct, and supervise students on dental lab techniques.
- Set up projects and prepare materials for course exercises.
- Tutor students on course exercises as needed.
- Tutor students and instructors on safe handling of equipment and materials.
- Collaborate and serve as a resource for faculty in the use of simulation
- Calibrate with Lab Manager and UWSOD/EWU RIDE faculty to ensure RIDE lab and set-ups are the same as UWSOD labs
- Other related duties as assigned
Assist with the organization and maintenance of supplies, equipment and inventories (40%)
- Assist Lab Manager with researching dental laboratory items used in pre-clinical course and evaluate equipment for course use.
- Help maintain laboratory materials and manuals
- Help maintain inventory of laboratory materials, supplies and equipment.
- In coordination with the Lab Manager, determine need for materials, equipment, and instruments necessary for course exercises, place orders with vendors, receive orders and repackage items as needed per course.
- Stock simulation, wet and digital labs and dispensary for course and after-hours use.
- Help maintain chemical inventory and associated MSDS.
- Help maintain a filing system of MSDSs for easy access.
- Package and ship project materials to instructors and the Scientific Instructional Technician in Seattle, School of Dentistry.
- Take photos; assist with writing and filming dental procedures/techniques for uploading on Canvas (web-based course management tool).
- Provide audio-visual support with equipment in the lab Multimedia Instruction Station.
- Assist in the development of instructional materials, project evaluation forms and conduct lecture presentation of didactic material and technique videos.
- Review student "issue list" for redundancy among courses and to ensure that items are consistent with other courses.
- Send and track student hand pieces for repair.
- Coordinate preparation for laboratory programs and field-oriented courses using safety procedures in handling sharps.
- Assist students in the use of digital radiography and troubleshoot, as needed.
- Interface with administrative and IT staff
- Other related duties as assigned
Assist with operations of the simulation and dental lab
- Monitor all laboratories for compliance with safety policies and procedures
- Orient faculty and students on safety policies and procedures
- Observe HIPAA and FERPA guidelines in class, clinic and dental labs
- Assure safe management of sharps disposal and simulated medications
- Evaluate equipment specifications and make purchase recommendations
- Ensure all equipment is maintained within manufacturer recommendations
- Cares for laboratory equipment by cleaning; autoclaves and sterilizes clinical instruments; maintains cleanliness in all dental laboratories
- Coordinate laboratory support, maintenance and dispensary room functions
- Schedule routine preventive maintenance for simulators
- Help maintain and update Laboratory Safety manual, perform lab safety checks on regular basis, etc.
- Coordinate with Lab Manager to inspect and maintain dental lab equipment. Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance and repairs to equipment; when necessary refer repairs to external maintenance and repair personnel.
- Assist with maintenance of schedules for laboratories and simulation spaces
- Keep records of student attendance in scheduled laboratory, simulation labs and workshops
- Other related duties as assigned
