Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Biology seeks an exceptional professional research technician at the level of Senior Laboratory Sciences Professional. The Section is focused on understanding cellular, molecular, and genetic mechanisms of fetal and child development, using animal, cell, and organoid models. The Senior Laboratory Sciences Professional will support research performing molecular cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cryosectioning, fluorescent in situ RNA hybridization, and immunohistochemistry, and using laser scanning confocal microscopes and imaging software to obtain data and analyze data. This individual will also have responsibility for managing and genotyping zebrafish stocks and training others in zebrafish husbandry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Molecular cloning and PCR
  • Performing experiments using genetic mutants, microinjections, fluorescent in situ RNA hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy
  • Manage zebrafish stocks and train others in zebrafish husbandry
  • Maintaining records of zebrafish stocks, molecular reagents, and experimental data
  • Writing reports for scientific summaries and manuscripts
  • Preparing data and figures for grant proposals

The research focus of the Section of Developmental Biology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is to discover knowledge related to embryonic development, with a particular emphasis on several major tissue and organ systems, such as the brain, heart, intestine, face, and vascular, olfactory, and immune systems. Investigators use a variety of different stem, organoid, and animal experimental models, including Drosophila, zebrafish, and mice.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

Two (2) years professional level research experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years or more experience with zebrafish husbandry and experiments using zebrafish
  • 2 years or more experience designing and implementing genotyping tests
  • 2 years or more experience using confocal microscopy
  • 2 years or more experience with molecular cloning techniques

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

$54,440 to $69,248

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
