Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Community Engagement Office, the Community Engagement Specialist at Eastern Washington University is responsible for strengthening and fostering meaningful partnerships between the university and the broader community. This position will function as a representative and resource for the Community Engagement Office. The specialist will coordinate service-learning initiatives and assess student learning outcomes, facilitate volunteer engagement, develop programs that connect students, faculty, and community organizations to promote civic engagement and social commitment, and help coordinate the EWU Aspire program.

The salary for this position is $50,000 (minimum) up to $55,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in community development, social work, public administration, education, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of experience in community engagement, outreach, program coordination, or a related field.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing programs, events, or volunteer initiatives.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
- Be student-centered with a passion for student success.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Masters degree in a related field.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with service-learning and civic engagement best practices.
- Bilingual fluency, with Spanish preferred

Job Duties:
Community Engagement & Outreach (25%)
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses to identify collaboration opportunities.
- Build and sustain ongoing relationships with students that facilitate and enhance the student/university connection. Serve as a liaison between EWU students, faculty, and community organizations to facilitate volunteerism, internships, and career-centered learning projects.
- Represent EWU at community meetings, events, and service initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase student and faculty participation in community engagement programs.
Program Development & Coordination (40%)
- Organize and manage community-based programs, events, and service projects in alignment with the universitys engagement goals.
- Provide administrative assistance for the office of community engagement, including front desk coverage coordination.
- Be attentive to the EWU Aspire program, ensuring students gain real-world experience through mentoring, leadership, and direct engagement with K-12 students.
- Track participation of students and community partners, and the impact of engagement programs, collecting data to assess effectiveness and inform future initiatives.
- Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to develop community engagement programs.
Marketing & Communications (25%)
- Develop promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content to highlight community engagement efforts.
- Manage the community engagement website and maintain up-to-date information on available service opportunities.
- Provide reports and presentations to university leadership and stakeholders on community engagement impact.
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Work in partnership with university colleagues to enhance student participation and engagement and community impact efforts.
- Interpret university policies, procedures, and requirements for students.
- Represent EWU on campus and community committees
Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
