DESCRIPTION
Mendocino College is seeking a collaborative and equity-minded individual to join our Library and textbook affordability teams. The Open Education and Textbook Affordability Librarian will be a temporary full-time categorically funded position responsible for the coordination of open education and textbook affordability initiatives at Mendocino College. This position promotes and facilitates the adoption, adaptation, and creation of online educational resources (OER) and other affordable alternatives to textbooks by Mendocino College faculty. This includes active collaboration with faculty, staff, administrators, and students in promoting open education and low-cost alternatives on campus. The successful candidate will expand Mendocino College's growing commitment to OER and further establish zero-textbook cost degree pathways. This librarian will curate resources for faculty and provide training for faculty on all aspects of the OER creation and adoption process. This librarian position will work with the Head Librarian while spearheading various tasks coordinating and helping faculty convert courses to OER materials. Additionally, this position will assess, coordinate, and manage OER and ZTC course conversions.
The Open Education and Textbook Affordability Librarian will be expected to represent the library and campus in system-level discussions related to ZTC, OER, and affordable course costs, including managing required reporting, and participate in campus initiatives related to student course material access

ASSIGNMENT:
This is a full-time, categorically funded Library Faculty position for the 2025/26 academic year on a 175-day contract. Continuation of the position in subsequent years is contingent on future funding.
For specific contract service dates, please see the 25/26 Academic Calendar . The start date for this position will be August 15, 2025. This is not a remote position. This position is primarily located in Ukiah at our main campus however travel to off-campus centers within the District maybe be required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Compensation is dependent on education and experience.
Annual salary offered at $72,287 - $100,687. Step seven (7) is the maximum step placement based on year for year teaching experience or two years of FTE work experience in the field per step.

Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance with no monthly premium contribution from faculty members. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective at the first of the month following hire date.
Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn ten (10) days of sick leave per year.
Retirement: This position is eligible for CalSTRS Retirement. Additional, voluntary 403{b) programs are available.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The successful candidate will support success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration. This includes the following duties and/or assignments:
- Develop strategic partnerships with campus stakeholders and other California community college OER partners to promote the use of OER and open pedagogical materials and support their integration into the curriculum.
- Provide user support for faculty to find and implement open, accessible, and affordable course material through consultations and the development of online resources (e.g., guides and tutorials). Collaborate with faculty to create, customize, and update OER materials for their courses.
- Provide training and workshops to faculty on OER and course material affordability. Conducts training and workshops on OER creation, adaptation, and integration.
- Identify the needs of OER authors/adapters around sharing and publishing open-source materials and recommend software or other infrastructure investments for the College.
- Provide guidance to faculty on copyright, open licensing, and fair use issues related to OER.
- In coordination with the library's collection development and circulation departments, understand the course material needs of students and faculty.
- Evaluate and manage existing library-wide collections, resources, and services in support of affordable course materials, including recommendations for acquisition and expansion.
- Identify, evaluate, and curate high-quality OER materials for various academic disciplines.
- Coordinate with Office of Institutional Research to track and analyze OER/ZTC-related data and assess its impact.
- Assist Instruction Office with accurately tracking ZTC information at course section level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.
Possess an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender-identity, sexuality, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and a willingness to create safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
- ALA-accredited master's degree in library/information science or equivalent
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working at a community college or other educational setting
- Initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience providing service at a library reference desk while employing online search strategies.
- Experience supporting and advising faculty and staff in areas of copyright, open licensing, and fair use as it relates to OER.
- Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism initiatives and Open Educational Resources.
- Experience communicating and collaborating with faculty to find, develop, license, adopt, and/or adapt OER.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of accessibility practices and guidelines which support inclusive learning.
- Oral communication and presentation abilities.
- Knowledge of electronic collections and digital repositories OR demonstrated broad knowledge of library discovery systems and online resources.
- Experience with data visualization tools.
- Experience using Canvas or other learning management systems.
- Experience with or ability to gather data and meet grant reporting requirements
