Job Summary:
Are you a culinary creative with a passion for crafting exceptional dining experiences? Eastern Washington University is on the lookout for a talented Cook 3 - Float to join our campus Dining Services team. Key Responsibilities:
- Innovative Cooking: Oversee daily food production, ensuring delicious and visually appealing dishes.
- Leadership & Planning: Schedule and assign tasks, develop prep lists, and manage timelines to keep operations running smoothly.
- Menu Mastery: Design and prepare diverse menus and recipes, handle product requisitions, and maintain thorough records and reports.
- Training & Mentorship: Guide and train team members in cooking techniques and food service best practices.
- Event Coordination: Plan and execute meals for special events, focusing on quality and tailored dietary needs.

The salary for this position is $44,580 - $59,568. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. In addition, EWU offers generous vacation and sick leave accruals, 13 paid holidays per year and fringe benefits, such as tuition waiver for employees and eligible family members, discounted EWU sports tickets, full access to our campus workout facilities at a minimum fee and free transportation through STA buses. Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Food Handlers Permit
- Washington State Drivers License
- Three years of food service work, including one year of lead experience, or equivalent education or experience.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the needs of, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
We highly encourage you to apply even if you do not have some (or all) of the preferred experience below:
- Two years of college/university food service experience is preferred.
- High volume food production serving over 400 meals per day is preferred
- One year of supervisory experience
- Culinary degree or related degree in the food service field
- ACF Certification
- Experience forecasting and ordering food
- Menu/Recipe Development
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Able to work at a rapid pace while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and accomplish goals.
- Time management skills
- Must have good communication and supervisory skills.
- Must have good knife skills.
Job Duties:
Participates in and monitors large-scale preparation and service of food; prepares food items according to standard menus, recipes and verbal instructionsPercent of Time: 40

Recipe development; assists in preparing menus and determining amount of food to meet menu requirements; keeps recordsPercent of Time: 15

Leads and participates in the storage and utilization of leftover ingredients and products; rotate stockPercent of Time: 5

Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires a valid food handlers permit and a drivers license.
- This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends (evening shifts do include a shift premium).
- During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

Upon hire employees must comply with franchise requirements regarding clothing and appearance, if applicable. - All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
