Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $81,000 to $91,000/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:


Organizes and implements a well-disciplined, competitive and comprehensive Intercollegiate Athletics sports program that abides by all local, state, federal and specialized mandates, including NCAA, Big West Conference and University rules, policies and regulations. Maintains assigned sports program within the operating budget established for said program.

Qualifications:

  • Leadership ability and successful coaching skills including: ability to teach sound fundamentals of the game, effective communication and management skills, has clear understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics within the overall academic mission of the University and is committed to the academic endeavors of the student-athletes, ability to administer program within budgetary parameters, ability to recruit highly successful student athletes.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Constitution and Bylaws.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • 4-6 years related experience
  • NCAA certified recruiter
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in related field

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
  • 80% Sports Programs - Compile a representative and competitive schedule within the existing budget allocation. Requisition equipment, supplies, and uniforms as needed for an effective and functional program while remaining within the budget limitations. Organize and implement a pre-season conditioning program, in-season practice times and scheduled intercollegiate events, utilizing University time, facilities and support staff wisely. Recruit potential student-athletes within the established guidelines of the NCAA and UCSB. Assess talent, select team members and ensure that student athletes abide by both NCAA and University regulations governing the conduct of student athletes and their academic eligibility. Travel with teams to away events following all departmental, University and NCAA travel regulations. Such travel must be conducted within the limits of this sports program's operating budget. Coordinate efforts with the Sports Information Office in dissemination of information regarding respective sport.
  • 15% Professional Conduct - Maintain professional conduct at all times. Maintain good working relationships with the Athletics Department staff, the University community and the general public as related to intercollegiate athletics. Keep informed of trends and changes in respective sport by maintaining membership in professional organizations and/or attending clinics or conferences when appropriate.
  • 5% Other Duties - All members of the Athletics Department staff shall perform additional duties on an intermittent basis as assigned by the Athletics Director. For coaches, these duties will include but may not be limited to the following: Participate in the department's program of community relations activities. Remain knowledgeable in, and comply with, NCAA, Big West Conference, University and Athletics Department rules, policies and regulations applicable to the performance of your duties as a coach.
