Job Summary:

The Orthopedic Technician functions in a team-based manner to assist in the management of patient care, casting, bracing, and application of orthotics. They will also assist in patient care, such as rooming, taking vitals as needed, and putting in any orders per the physician's orders. They perform delegated activities and assume responsibilities as outlined in the unlicensed assistive personnel competency guidelines, orthopedic competency guidelines, and the orthopedic technician training curriculum. The Orthopedic Technician helps assist professional staff (RNs, Physicians, NPs, PAs, ATCs) in managing the healthcare and support needs of orthopedic patients and families in a clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms and readies them for physicians.
  • Takes vital signs, records medical history/symptoms, patient progress, physical exam, and any special tests as deemed appropriate by the Provider.
  • Reconciles all patient medications and updates allergies in the medical record.
  • Demonstrates application of basic upper and lower extremity casts, as outlined in the essential functions.
  • Assists the Orthotist with orthotic fittings and managing care for orthotics patients.
  • At the direction of the Provider, performs patient education and assists with appointments.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Englewood, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Ortho Tech I:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Ortho Tech II:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of orthopedic casting/bracing experience.

Ortho Tech III:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of orthopedic casting/bracing experience.

Substitution: Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • National Board of Cert Ortho Techs Certification.
  • One (1) year of experience in an orthopedic setting providing care.
  • Experience working in conjunction with orthopedic/sports medicine physicians.
  • Experience with orthotics and orthotic fitting.
  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking.
  • Epic, Kronos, and Healthstream experience.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider level CPR certification.
  • Maintains all required certifications for the position.
  • Must be able to work in person.
  • Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
  • Ortho Tech I: $44,116 to $51,527
  • Ortho Tech II: $47,813 to $55,846
  • Ortho Tech III: $49,772 to $58,134

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
