Job Summary
This assistant teaching professor will have a four-four teaching load, teaching two modified courses per semester plus Spanish language courses in the Division of Continuing Education's Evening Credit program.
Coordination duties include curriculum development (textbook selection and/or creation of course materials), syllabus design, and supervision of, collaboration with, and support for the other one to three modified-course instructors and the Continuing Education Evening instructors.
The service obligations will consist of being the liaison between the Department and the Division. This will include:
- assigning instructors for the Continuing Education sections.
- coordinate alternative solutions in collaboration with the Division when instructors are unable or unwilling to fulfill their agreements with the Division.
- take primary responsibility for supervising and mentoring all instructors for the Division and ensuring their compliance with Division standards and deadlines.
- be involved in overall support for the Department's course offerings, including those by tenure track faculty, instructors, and GPTIs.
- ensure that the instructors are teaching the Division's sections in the manner required by the Dept, including the following of course curricula and use of standard textbooks and course materials.
- review course evaluations for all the offerings and follow-up with the Department and Division with any concerns
For purposes of annual merit evaluation, instructors are assessed at 85% teaching and 15% service obligations. Classroom teaching and coordination duties will both be considered as part of the teaching component. The successful candidate will receive a 3-year appointment and will undergo a reappointment review in order to be considered for a subsequent 3-year appointment.

What We Require
- An MA in Spanish or Second-Language Acquisition and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
- The candidate will have at least two years of experience successfully teaching beginning and intermediate level Spanish as a second language at the post-secondary level. Years of experience teaching while pursuing a degree may be counted for these two years.
