Job Summary

Responsible for self-operated residential dining, retail dining, and catering for the University on multiple campuses. University Dining consists of two dining halls, various national retail franchise locations, proprietary KSU retail locations, catering services, mobile ordering operations and grab and go production. Provides leadership, strategic planning, operational, financial planning for operations and management and staff development for all dining services employees. Develops collaborative relationships with student leaders, faculty, and administrators to determine the needs of the campus community.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides leadership, development, and oversight to all dining services staff and student assistants
2. Works with other division departments to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and visitors are provided the highest level of service
3. Develops and implements a short and long-term strategic vision for each of the departments that fall under areas of responsibility
4. Works effectively with campus partners to develop programs and partnerships to utilize and promote University Dining services
5. Manages dining budgets in excess of twenty-five million annually and financial processes
6. Develops and manages meal plans and dining dollar programs
7. Directs staff to ensure a safe and sanitary workplace complying with all applicable governmental laws and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures
8. Negotiates and administers national and local brand franchise agreements, purchasing contracts, and co-op agreements
9. Provides oversight and guidance in long-range capital planning, renewal of program concepts, and product offerings to meet current trends and generational expectations
10. Leads dining facility and equipment maintenance operations (over 250,000 sq. ft of location space) and capital asset management, including PPV and GHEFA facilities
11. Strategically evaluates current resources, personnel, financial, facility, and capital, identify future needs, immediate and long-term, and develop plans to maintain or acquire necessary resources to help meet the goals and objectives of the University
12. Provides and supports services and activities to student development and well-being in order to increase retention rates, academic progress, and graduation rates
13. Communicates with administration, system office, and other state agencies and acts as a liaison as necessary about the areas under this purview
14. Develops business models and metrics to measure productivity, financial performance, and effectiveness of programs and services
15. Review financials on an ongoing basis and make decisions which optimize the effectiveness of the programs and use of financial and human resources

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business, retail, food service/management, hospitality or a related field.

Other Required Qualifications
ServSafe Certification
Current, valid and unrestricted driver's license

Required Experience
Seven (7) years of progressive experience in higher education, dining, or restaurant management.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in business, retail, food service/management, hospitality, or a related field

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Able to serve as a key advisory member of the leadership team for campus services
Able to effectively use Blackboard and able to effectively use inventory management tools
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
Well-versed and knowledgeable of laws governing education data (FERPA)
Knowledgeable in best practices in a higher education environment and assigned areas of responsibility
Remains informed and aware of best practices within their respective areas of leadership

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Competent in point-of-sale systems such as Infogenesis, Sequoia or similar POS systems
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
