Position Summary:
Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.
Duties may include:
  • Providing technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applications
  • Planning and conducting research and analysis of scientific data
  • Interpreting test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
  • Identifying and evaluating scientific samples and determining need for further testing
  • Developing recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocol to a wide range of difficult problems
  • Planning, designing, developing, monitoring and/or evaluating portions of a scientific project, study, or application
  • Providing scientific evaluations/assessments
  • Researching, implementing, standardizing, and evaluating new procedures
  • Maintaining detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM field
  • Two years of post-bachelors research experience related to the domain of this position


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a laboratory
  • Experience communicating effectively and electronically, and ideally technical information to clients/collaborators
  • Experience solving problems in both physical and customer service contexts
  • Experience with PCR, q/RT-PCR, gel-imaging, imaging, diagnostic equipment
  • Demonstrated ability keeping records of research data and summarizing research data
  • Post-graduate degree
  • Experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Experience applying molecular biology and/or analytical/diagnostic techniques and troubleshooting the experiment, sample, and/or user
  • Experience with methods, procedures and operating principles of high-throughput DNA sequencing and other high-throughput technologies
  • Experience delicately/tactfully providing necessary feedback that might also be viewed as a personal attack by the nonobjective
  • Experience in developing standard operating procedures
  • Knowledge or experience with laboratory safety, biosafety and decontamination
  • Experience resolving conflict in a customer service environment
  • Experience working independently and in a team-oriented setting
  • Possess excellent laboratory bench skills
  • Coursework or experience with Linux and basic programming/scripting (e.g. Bash, R, Python, etc)
  • Analytical background as evidenced by coursework in advanced math or statistics courses
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and university laws, regulations, and policies as related to core facilities and federal research grants


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Ability to perform tasks in a wet-laboratory
  • Ability to occasionally lift carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds
