Position Information

Hiring Department: Institutional Advancement

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $45,000 annually; Salary is commensurate with experience

This position is remote eligible depending on prior experience.

Essential Functions

This role is guided by key responsibilities as defined by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) and will complete duties in the areas of research and donor identification, cross-department collaboration, and data reporting and maintenance.



Reporting to Cindy Burciaga, our Assistant Director of Prospect Management and Research, and working closely with other Institutional Advancement units, you'll be responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing information on prospective donors. You will actively contribute to the identification and verification of new prospects discovered through database screening and other proactive resources.



Your expertise will be pivotal in deriving gift capacity estimates for major donor prospects with a focus on those contributing $25,000 or more, utilizing available wealth indicators, and facilitating the movement of donors and prospects through the prospect management pipeline. You will also be responsible for conducting both reactive and proactive research efforts on individuals, foundations, corporate prospects, and donors. Your ability to conduct in-depth financial and biographical research and create comprehensive profile reports will be essential in helping to cultivate meaningful relationships with our donors.



You'll provide research support to key leadership at the University, including our Executive Leadership team and the President's office, as well as Development Officers (DOs), to inform our development strategies and advance potential donor relationships. As you develop and maintain trusted partnerships with your assigned College/Unit DOs, you will assist in prospect strategy development and documentation, offering recommendations for prospect assignments and maintaining high-quality prospect pools and portfolios. Additionally, you will fulfill the DOs' data and research needs, including reviewing contact reports, and updating proposal status.



Your work will be guided by a strong commitment to ethics and professionalism, following the code of ethics outlined by APRA to ensure that all research activities are conducted in a legal, ethical, and appropriate manner. As you conduct research, you'll support the creation and execution of optimal practices and procedures for our databases, ensuring data integrity as we strive to maintain the highest standards. Leveraging the University's alumni and donor database (Raiser's Edge), you will actively manage and update our constituent records, including career information and wealth indicators, contributing significantly to our ongoing efforts to maintain data accuracy and relevance.



Your active participation in ongoing professional development will be instrumental in staying up to date with the latest best practices in prospect research and closely monitoring the evolving philanthropic environment. You uphold and safeguard the confidentiality of donor information at all times.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

and

Experience: 1.5 - 2 years of experience collecting, organizing, and analyzing data or relevant experience

Applicants should demonstrate:

Experience in manipulating datasets, data mining, relationship mapping, internet-based research, and analyzing philanthropic data patterns

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in all Microsoft Office software and ability to learn and use departmental information systems.

Who We Want:

We are searching for a resourceful and proactive Senior Prospect Management and Research Officer to join Institutional Advancement (IA) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

As we build-out our Prospect Management and Research team, we are looking for a highly collaborative individual with experience in research methodology and a basic understanding of philanthropy and fundraising principles. You have exceptional communication and writing skills and your meticulous attention to detail is evident as you handle confidential materials, communications, and information with accuracy and precision.

As a resourceful problem-solver, adept at anticipating challenges and finding solutions independently, you help navigate unexpected situations smoothly. You take a proactive approach, identify potential improvements, and ways to streamline processes, and take initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a non-profit organization and/or higher education setting

Experience with LexisNexis, iWave

Experience using a fundraising database (e.g. Raiser's Edge/NXT)

Experience utilizing project management platforms
