Position Summary

Academic advisors in the Fordham College Advising Center provide holistic, personalized guidance to students in Fordham College at Lincoln Center (FCLC) and Fordham College at Rose Hill (FCRH), aimed to bolster their academic success and facilitate a smooth transition to college life.



Each campus hosts a Center for First-Year, Sophomore, and Transfer Advising; advisors work with students for their first two years, supporting their transition to college, academic progress, and declaration of major.



Depending on background and qualifications, an appointment will be made as either Academic Advisor or Senior Academic Advisor. The advisor will report to the FCRH Director of First- and Second-Year Students.



Essential FunctionsÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ

  • Meets individually with all assigned students (in person, online, and by phone) on a regular basis to provide academic advising and degree planning and to support the transition from high school to college.

  • Develops programming and provides resources to students in support of their academic progress and career development.

  • Applies best practices in academic advising to assist students in selecting programs of study, discerning fields of study, and connecting to experiential opportunities such as undergraduate research, study abroad, community engaged learning, and internships.

  • Collaborates with other advisors, both in FCRH and in FCLC, to develop a strong advising community and to deliver programs that support student success and retention.

  • Works collaboratively with student success team, departmental associate chairs, program directors, faculty mentors, and other members of the faculty and staff on student academic progression and student concerns.

  • Partners with campus departments such as ROTC, HEOP, CSTEP, Honors, Academic Records, Student Accounts, and Athletics to provide holistic and informed guidance to students.

  • Contributes to the effectiveness of academic advising and student support through team-based work with other deans in the FCRH, FCLC, the Gabelli School of Business, and other schools throughout Fordham University.

  • Fully leverages the potential of the Fordham Hub (powered by Salesforce) to provide wraparound student support.

  • Uses data-based tools to identify and prioritize students who need intervention and support.

  • As needed, attends regular case conferences and works collaboratively with others across the institution, including Assistant Deans for Student Support and Success, Counseling and Psychological Services, Campus Ministry and Student Affairs, in identifying and supporting at-risk students.

  • Responds to regular inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and other administrators with regard to academic and course related issues. Understands and complies with all FERPA regulations and maintains appropriate confidentiality.

  • Supports major campus events such as Commencement and works with Admissions on events for incoming advisees.

  • Some evening and weekend hours are required, on occasion to support major campus events.

Required Qualifications: Education and ExperienceÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, Counseling, or related Field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in higher education, academic advising, or transfer student support.

  • Academic Advisor: Master’s degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field AND/OR previous higher education experience in academic advising or transfer student support.

  • Senior Academic Advisor: Rank dependent on years of experience.




Required Qualifications: Knowledge and SkillsÂÂÂÂÂ

  • Familiarity with best practices in academic advising and in working with a varied, diverse population of students.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, organize, prioritize, and work collaboratively.

  • Proficiency in various software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite. Experience with Banner, Salesforce, and web management systems a plus.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Understanding of and commitment to furthering the Catholic, Jesuit mission in liberal arts higher education.

  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.




Preferred QualificationsÂ

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in higher education, academic advising, or transfer student support.




Candidates who meet the Preferred Qualifications may be considered for the rank of Senior Advisor.



Minimum Starting Salary: $65,000

Â

Maximum Starting Salary: $85,000

Â

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
