Job Summary:

The University of San Francisco, a Jesuit Catholic university, is searching for an innovative and dedicated individual to assume the position of Vice Provost for Global and Experiential Education. The candidate provides vision and leadership to the University in global, community-engaged, and experiential learning. The Vice Provost will oversee the Center for Global Education, the Office of International Student and Scholars Services, the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good, and academic programing at Star Route Farms. The University is looking for an individual who will lead with creativity, integrity, inclusiveness, sound judgment, wisdom and energy, engendering a team approach consistent with the university's mission, vision and values as a Jesuit Catholic institution. The candidate will be able to motivate and manage a staff committed to academic excellence and inspiring students to be men and women for others. The Vice Provost reports directly to the Provost and serves as a member of the Provost Council.

Job Responsibilities:

The Vice Provost for Global and Experiential Education will be expected to

Develop, articulate and implement a forward-thinking, thoughtful, data-driven, comprehensive global and community-based education strategy that includes educational experiences on the USF campuses, in the San Francisco Bay Area, across the nation, and abroad.
Work with directors, faculty, and staff to identify, implement, and assess international and community-engaged learning experiences for USF students, including study abroad programs, short-term university-sponsored academic and volunteer programs, joint academic opportunities, and service learning. Develop and support experiential learning opportunities, such undergraduate research, internships, and externships.
Oversee the Center for Global Educations activities in the promotion of a global perspective for our students including planning and approval of program activities, budget oversight, faculty training, etc.
Working with the Risk Management unit in Accounting and Business Services, review and manage risk for student and faculty scholarly domestic and international travel; use multiple, reliable sources of information to assess travel risk for all community and international initiatives; work with staff to revise protocols to meet the changing travel needs of multiple USF communities.
Supervise the activities of the International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSS) within the Center for Global Education, including the issuance of documents for visas for international students and exchange scholars, reporting of student and scholar status to the Federal government, issuance of permissions for travel and for work experience, etc.
Work collaboratively with other vice provosts, the deans, the faculty and staff to provide support to international students on the USF campuses; ensuring that all students have the resources they need to be pursue their scholarship and develop as men and women for others.
Working with the deans offices in the College of Arts and Sciences and the four schools, develop new high quality, faculty-led educational opportunities that meet the needs of students from a variety of academic programs of study and ensure that students are adequately advised and instructors are adequately trained.
Oversee the operations of the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good
Oversee academic programming at Star Route Farms, the university-owned organic farm in Bolinas, CA.
Working with the College of Arts and Sciences and the four schools, build and maintain strong, collaborative academic partnerships with community organizations, universities, and centers, at the local, national and international levels
Represent the University at the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and other international education conferences and host visits by scholars and administrators from universities outside the United States.
Work with the Development Office to cultivate donor support for student global, community-based, and experiential education and travel.
Review or create Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and contracts between the University of San Francisco and other universities and organizations.
Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines and external reporting requirements.
Develop and implement strategies that increase efficiencies and reduce expenses within units under their purview.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

An understanding and commitment to promote the Mission of the University as a Jesuit Catholic, urban, institution that strives to provide a global perspective that educates leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world.
Significant experience with curriculum development in global education, experiential learning, and/or community-engaged education.
Experience as a full-time, tenured faculty member, with three or more years of academic administration experience preferred.
Experience writing and reviewing contracts and MOUs and with budgets and resource allocation preferred.
Outstanding oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to listen and collaborate with diverse audiences and acting as a team player in support of the University.
Experience leading change across a complex organization.
Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, international partners, and the public.
Commitment to an organizational culture marked by trust, integrity, ethics, inclusiveness, professionalism, and respect for diversity in all its forms.
