Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Student Financials Business Analyst in Student Financial Services (SFS), a unit within Student & Academic Services. SFS is a spirited office that manages all student receivables and partners with student services departments to ensure student financial records are accurate, accessible, and understandable for all and that we offer the easiest and best payment options for students and their families. This position is integral to the management of our student financial systems while working collaboratively with our business partners in University Information Technology and in Student Information Systems with a strong student-orientation focus.

Student & Academic Services (SAS) is an integral part of the division of Student Affairs and centers its work on supporting every student, faculty member, and academic and student affairs staff member on campus. In this role, you will:
  • Perform testing of new systems, upgrades and patching of existing systems; plan, conduct and document results of testing.
  • Advise users requiring assistance in solving complex problems or issues regarding management and business systems.
  • Analyze data and provide data sets to users for analysis. Includes development of operational and analytical reports (Tuition Reports, Audit Reports, Financial Reports) for end users, including the Budget Office.
  • Translate business processes into system requirements and/or development of systems solutions and collaborate effectively with Student Information Systems, University Information Technology, and Enterprise Technology.
  • Analyze new business requirements, assist with feasibility of enhancement requests, system functionality, current system use and user needs. This includes making recommendations to Student Information Systems, University Information Technology, and/or Enterprise Technology from analysis and participating with planning and implementation as subject-matter expert.
  • Specify functional analysis and design and work with developers and analysts to recommend solutions and resolve system issues.
  • Review, research and evaluate software to determine its usefulness and appropriateness as related to existing or proposed business systems; assist or develop preliminary and detailed system design documentation.
  • Develop instructional materials, training and job aids, including the development of business process guides for the program or function.
  • Liaise with external vendors or partners in support of business systems, which may include system development, implementation and/or operations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new or modified business systems for the program or function.


To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • A bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with students and other constituents in a warm and professional manner.
  • Creativity, resourcefulness, initiative, discernment, and a high degree of motivation is required.
  • Knowledge of, computer system capabilities, business processes, and work flow.
  • Experience with enterprise applications and understanding of database driven applications.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies and in systems analysis.
  • Current knowledge of rapidly changing computer technology.
  • Skill in conducting interviews and facilitating group meetings.
  • Skill in developing and conducting training programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise and business needs.
  • Strong listening, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to design and document complex business systems.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical thinking and ability to approach problems logically and systematically.


In addition, preferred requirements include:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with accounting systems, ability to apply accounting skills and concepts, including financial data analysis.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a project team.


Working Conditions: Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
