Position Description
Employees in this senior classification are responsible for the operation of a console, machinery, and/or data terminal. Work is performed under direct supervision, and is evaluated on the basis of accuracy and adequacy of output. Work is performed under office conditions; employees may work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Department safety (Safety to plant personnel and equipment is a top priority) - Employee will work safely using "STOP" training skills to identify and prevent unsafe acts.
  • Performs skilled work in monitoring environmental control equipment, building automation systems, energy management and conservation programs and controls, and property/life safety alarms for Texas Tech University facilities.
  • Provides data acquisition and report preparation for the department maintenance management programs. Provides point of contact for campus customers to report problems with facilities or request help in emergency situations.
  • Coordinates heating and air conditioning equipment operating schedule with facility utilization requirements to maximize energy conservation.
  • Assists electronic maintenance environmental systems technicians in troubleshooting computerized field unit energy management panel program discrepancies and general HVAC equipment configuration errors.
  • Complies with written direction to dispatch construction trade personnel for emergency facility repairs when required.
  • Position requires working rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.


Required Qualifications
Completion of high school or the equivalent plus three years work experience in the area of assignment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years experience as an emergency dispatcher, experience monitoring, operating, and/or programming HVAC controls systems.
  • Certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist.
  • Must be able to type 40 and pass a spelling test. Must be skilled in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must demonstrate problem solving, analytical and technical abilities.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate accurately in writing and verbally via telephone and two-way radio.
  • Experience in simple software programming, familiarity with JCI, Contech or Stuxureware.
