Purpose:
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic University in Silicon Valley, seeks candidates to teach THTR 29/129 - Rehearsal and Performance, serving as Costume Designer for one theatrical production in each of three quarters Fall 2017 (The Foreigner), Winter 2018 (Tartuffe), Spring 2018 (Legally Blond). Design for each main stage theatre production is .75 course load. We will hire for one quarter at a time.

Salary: $4,950 per course. Not benefits eligible.

Basic Qualifications:
MFA in Theatre Design/Production preferred. Two years of teaching at the university level required or commensurate design/production experience. Both professional and educational costume design experience preferred, with an understanding and appreciation for values in doing educational theatre desired. Design experience should reflect contemporary and period theatre. Candidates should have appropriate availability to be in residence in the shop, be a hands-on designer (to possibly include building, fitting, patterning work) and be ready to work closely with the faculty Costume Shop manager and the student work crew. Ability to carry out the professional duties of position; working with department directors, other designers and technical director. Candidates should have a collaborative work style, strong organizational and communication skills and a commitment to teaching theatre through production, within a liberal arts context.

Preferred Qualifications:
MFA in Theatre Design/Production or BA in Theatre preferred or commensurate professional experience.

Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to the following: 1. Attend all design and production meetings as scheduled.
2. Provide all design sketches, materials suggestions and costume designs in a timely manner as requested by Costume Shop Manager.
3. Work with the Costume Shop Manager to insure costumes as designed are ready for technical dress rehearsal.
4. Attend dress rehearsals for productions.
5. Fulfill other instructional or academic duties such as attending faculty meetings or department special events, as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department. Course Description THTR 29/129 Rehearsal and Performance: Fall Quarter: 1) Design The Foreigner by Larry Shue (September through November, 2017); 2) Design Tartuffe By Moliere (January 2018 through March 2018); 3) Design Legally Blond by Heather Hach, Laurence Okeefe and Nell Benjamin (March 2018 through May 2018).
