Program Coordinator for Student Engagement

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Program Coordinator for Student Engagement will report to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. The Program Coordinator for Student Engagement ensures that the office, programming, and relationship-building with students, staff, faculty, and community members run smoothly. The successful candidate is an independent thinker and planner that takes initiative to be part of the Diversity and Inclusion team, interacts with the NCCU community, and provides nurturing support and encouragement to enhance diverse communities. The Spiritual Development & Dialogue unit works with the community spiritual leaders to plan, promote, and implement programming as we educate and inspire our community.
  • Provides effective support for the community spiritual leaders, student leaders, and work-study employees,
  • Provides support and serves as a resource to students in times of need.
  • Maintains a hospitable atmosphere and promotes a culture of compassion and care among students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Coordinate social media for events, education, and workshops.
  • Plan the Spiritual Development & Dialogue event/activities calendar annually.
  • Lead programming efforts related to student spiritual development
  • Facilitate dialogue amongst a diversity of faith perspectives and practices
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to local organizations, churches, ministries, etc. in order to enhance the spiritual development opportunities of students.
  • Plan and coordinate events by handling arrangements with vendors, providing supplies, facilitating contracts, and reserving spaces.
  • Provide reporting for Spiritual Development and Dialogue and create and distribute assessments.
  • Plan, promote, and implement faith-specific and multi-faith events.
  • Empower, mentor, and support students, individually and in groups.
  • Coordinate the reservations and calendar for the prayer rooms.
  • Knowledgeable of the university and community support services and offer referrals to the Counseling Center, the Women's Center, Men's Achievement Center, Student Accessibility Services, Diversity and Inclusion, the Health Center, community faith organizations, and other resources and collaborators.
  • Works directly with NCCU's Office of the Dean of Students to provide critical support to students with crisis concerns that need immediate resolution.


    Minimum Education/Experience:
    Requires a bachelors degree or equivalent plus 2-3 years related experience.

    Masters Degree or equivalent related experience in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field and experience in residence life and supervising staff is all preferred. Experience with assessment is preferred.

    Understanding of issues of diversity; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff required.

    Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs and assessment preferred.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    A successful staff member has a passion for working with a diverse student population, a commitment to student learning and development, and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. A successful staff member demonstrates initiative, possesses the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, and maintains a positive attitude. Strong supervisory, administrative, communication, and counseling skills are essential.
