About the Position:
The University Police department is dedicated to ensuring the University Community's right to a crime free environment through exemplary and professional service. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Police Operations Captain. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general supervision of the Chief of Police, the Operations Captain is responsible for providing leadership in management to personnel, direct and indirect supervision of all personnel assigned to Patrol Operations, Communications Unit and the Irvine Campus to include policy formulation and execution. Responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of all pertinent laws within the jurisdiction of the University Police Department, California State University, Fullerton. Coordinates, identifies and corrects operational deficiencies within areas of responsibility in an appropriate and timely manner. Responsible for special event planning, personnel performance evaluations, overseeing the patrol deployment schedule and other staffing needs, police fleet management, and serves as the University's Whistleblower contact. Manages the day to day operations of the Communications Unit. Responsible for maintaining, recommending for purchase and documentation of police vehicles and related equipment. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
POST Management Certificate. A Bachelors Degree with at least 10 years of law enforcement experience of which at least two years at the rank above Sergeant. Law enforcement experience with a California POST agency or ability to get a POST waiver if experience is outside of California.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Special Working Conditions:
Must be able to operate emergency vehicle, firearms, computer, telephone, mobile phone, two-way radio and impact weapons, and other related equipment.

The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment.
