Ophthalmic Technician II

UIW Mission


Position Summary
Coordinates with all UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry clinical affiliations to streamline referrals, communications, and quality of patient care. Participates in clinical Risk Management, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Patient Safety/Infection Control Programs. Performs equipment maintenance and inventory, supplies, medications, forms, and information technology support. This is a full-time position where duties and responsibilities will evolve as the clinical network expands. UIWRSO personnel will be subject to the leave and holiday policies of the Rosenberg School of Optometry and its clinical services, which may differ from those of UIW.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to handle the pressure of strict deadlines. Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Due to the educational nature of our clinic, applicant must exhibit strong communication skills in order to effectively teach our interns every aspect of clinic care, such as informing them of the daily schedule changes and imparting any technical advice or recommendations, to assisting them with the care of their patient.
  • Ability to work as a team is the core of the entire clinic operation. Working closely with the interns to ensures a successful patient encounter and educational experience. experience.
  • Strong problem solving abilities, such as software issues, optometric equipment failure, and handling any unforeseen issues that compromise the clinic schedule and working around them to have it all turn out smoothly.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience
Minimum of two years of work experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, preferably in a teaching institution or private practice.

Preferred Qualifications
Fluency in Spanish.

Work Hours
Standard hours of Mon -Fri 9am to 6pm. Some evening hours are required. Saturday rotation is mandatory. Work hours are subject to change based on the needs of the clinic and school for each semester.
