Position Summary
Big Bend Community College invites applications for Online Tutors in the STEM Center. This position will provide tutoring assistance in a variety of subjects and will assist the STEM Center Coordinator in creating an environment that is welcoming, positive, inclusive and conducive to learning.

Currently, all student support is being provided remotely. Students are able to access STEM Center resources through Canvas and tutoring (drop-in and embedded) is available over Zoom.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Center offers all BBCC enrolled students, including GED/ DVS, a wide variety of tutoring and instructional support services for all levels of math, science, and engineering courses. The STEM Center is a collaborative study area which provides drop-in tutoring services, supplemental instruction, faculty support, STEM related advising, and a variety of resources.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. Essential Job Duties
Essential Job Duties to include, but not limited to:
  • Supporting students in math and/or science courses with use of effective tutoring techniques in an online environment.
  • Being able to help students in one-on-one and/or in group settings.
  • Understanding of STEM Center resources and ability to direct students to resources.
  • Being aware of tutor, SI Leader, and faculty schedules to refer students appropriately.
  • Maintaining records of student use of tutoring services.
  • Attending all mandatory paid training.
  • Meeting regularly with supervisor.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be able to tutor students in arithmetic through Pre-calculus and/or introductory Chemistry. Candidate will be asked to take content exam during interview process. If candidate falls below minimum score, candidate may still be hired, but will be asked to audit class(es) to reinforce content knowledge.
  • Previous experience working with individuals one-on-one and/or small groups.
  • Previous experience working directly with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Individuals interested in this position should also:
  • Demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Show dedication to student success.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish proficiency.
