Job Description
The Network Engineer, under direction, Oversees the operations of the Prairie View A&M research network working with faculty and staff to support research activities. Reviews emerging network (data and voice) technologies, tools, products, and services.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the operations of the Prairie View A&M research network working with faculty and staff to support research activities.
  • Reviews emerging network (data and voice) technologies, tools, products, and services.
  • Meets with IT stakeholders to gather business requirements and their implications on networking solutions.
  • Configure, install and support Cisco routers, switches, access points, physical rack units, etc. when necessary.
  • Troubleshooting and configuration of complex SDN/LAN/WAN infrastructure including routing protocols such as OSPF & BGP
  • Business continuity/Disaster recovery planning/testing. After-hours systems support (rotating on-call schedule once a month).
  • Design end-to-end networking and application data flow with PMO.
  • Approves and implements network design plans. Incident troubleshooting and resolution, including documentation of root cause analysis
  • Implementation and support of SDN (ACI) and automation and scripting tools (Chef, Python, etc.)
  • PCI DSS Program adherence, IT standards and best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring all Cisco equipment's using Solarwinds, WhatsUpGold and NAC Administration.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field
  • Eight years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Ten years of related experience in network engineering, routing and switching, wireless projects, network protocols, encryption, topologies, overall system integration/convergence, and/or video and data convergence, integrating systems in multi-user, multiplatform, and multitasking operating system environments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of IT architecture, application of systems theory, advanced negotiation skills, enterprise-level operations, multi-team leadership and coordination, advanced project management, advanced vendor relations, advanced business acumen, and change management
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of interior and exterior routing and switching protocols, domain name system (DNS), dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), proxy functions, security protocols, time protocols, tag and label switching, real-time protocols for voice and/or wide area network (WAN) communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and storage area network (SAN) solutions in network, security, and computing.
  • Knowledge of network system analysis and design techniques for voice (wireless and wired), video, and data.
  • Knowledge of firewalls.
