JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for the endowed James H. Manning Professorship in Chemical Engineering (https://www.wpi.edu/academics/che/about.html). This prestigious professorship will be made at the Associate or Full Professor level. WPI's Chemical Engineering Department is ranked number 6 (out of 147) in the nation by College Factual - USA Today, with cutting-edge and growing research programs in molecular bioengineering, sustainable energy, functional materials and catalysis, and computational science and engineering. Our collegial and diverse faculty work collaboratively in providing exceptional teaching and mentoring in the context of progressive interdisciplinary research to solve some of the most complex societal problems. We have tripled our research funding in recent years from the NSF, NIH, Army and DOE and were recently rewarded a new NSF NRT in The Circular Economy. The Chemical Engineering department is housed in state-of-the-art facilities located at both Goddard Laboratories and the interdisciplinary WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related field with an expected appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. We especially encourage applicants with expertise that complement existing departmental strengths and WPI's campus-wide efforts in data science, sustainability and biomanufacturing. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research, excellent teaching and established leadership. We expect the Manning Chair to catalyze new research efforts and bring our internal and external community of scholars together in new and innovative ways. The Chemical Engineering department expects faculty to be involved in a balance of research, teaching and service activities, including mentoring student projects at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, a leadership statement, a statement regarding contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion, and names and email addresses for at least five references. Please direct queries to the chair of the search committee, Susan Roberts (scroberts@wpi.edu). Candidates should clearly show how they will integrate into WPI's efforts in research, education and diversity, equity and inclusion.

WPI, founded in 1865 and located one hour west of Boston, is one of the nation's oldest and premiere technological universities. WPI is a highly selective private university with an undergraduate student body of over 4,000 and 1,900 full-time and part-time graduate students. Its innovative project-enriched, interdisciplinary curriculum engages students and faculty in real-world problem solving, often at one of WPI's global project centers. U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks WPI among the top 100 national universities and College Factual.
