Eastern Washington University and the Department of Occupational Therapy invite applications for an occupational therapist to serve as a full-time Lecturer. Start date for this position is August 1, 2019. This is a standard 9-month core faculty appointment; the academic calendar typically runs from mid-August to mid-May. There may also be opportunities for supplemental summer teaching contracts in the areas of anatomy and biomechanics.


Faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department.


The full-time Lecturer position will carry a 90% teaching load as outlined in the University Collective Bargaining Agreement, plus 10% service to the department and the profession. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in student advising and ongoing assessment of student learning. Current teaching needs are in the areas of mental health, physical disabilities, health and wellness, and applied neurology.

Conditions of Employment

The required start date for this position is 08/01/2019. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 08/01/2019.


There may be opportunities for a summer teaching contract. Faculty benefits will continue through the summer whether or not a summer teaching appointment is available, as long as the candidate hired for the position is reappointed for academic year 2020-21







Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a master's degree in occupational therapy or related field.

  • Minimum of four years of clinical experiences in a variety of occupational therapy practice areas, including mental health, physical disabilities, and/or neurorehabilitation.

  • Previous experience lecturing in an MOT/OTA program in some capacity.

  • Experience working effectively with interprofessional colleagues.
    Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as an occupational therapist in the state of Washington.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced master's or doctoral degree in occupational therapy or related field.

  • Evidence of completion of relevant specialty certification, such as Certified Hand Therapist, Assistive Technology Practitioner, Infant-Mental Health Certification, and/or AOTA Board Certification

  • Five or more years of clinical experience in a variety of practice areas, including but not limited to mental health, physical disabilities, health and wellness, and/or neurorehabilitation.

  • One year of college-level teaching experience.

  • Evidence of participation and leadership in professional activities.

  • Evidence of technical publications related to the field of occupational therapy.

  • Evidence of working with or for individuals from rural or other underserved populations.
