Job Description

The Applied Technology Department at The College of Southern Nevada invites applications for A Full-Time Instructor Position within the Engineering Technology Program beginning Fall 2020. The successful candidate will demonstrate industry and teaching experience.

The Engineering Technology Instructor will instruct lab and lecture classes in accordance with the established course student learning outcomes and catalog course descriptions. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving student learning objectives; selection of textbooks and other curriculum; conferring with students; evaluating student mastery; and providing a safe and positive classroom and laboratory environment. The instructor will have two prime area's of responsibility:

Primary teaching area(s) will be in electronics/electrical and in mechanical/mechatronics/ manufacturing engineering technology topics. The primary core courses will be in sub-disciplines, such as the following:

  • Analog/linear circuits
  • Digital circuits
  • Microprocessor/controller circuits
  • Telecommunication and/or RF circuits
  • Technical physics
  • UAS related courses such as an introductory course
  • Manufacturing related courses


This Engineering Technology Instructor at the direction of the AT Department Chair will be the prime coordinator with the Non-Credit Manufacturing Skills Training Program that include the following responsibilities, such as the following:

  • Serving as the ET program's primary liaison to DWED's noncredit program manufacturing program
  • When requested by the AT Department Chair, assist with the development, monitoring alignment and collaboration between credit and noncredit manufacturing programs
  • Facilitating partnerships with industry to address manufacturing industry education/training needs
  • When requested by the AT Department Chair, suggest revisions manufacturing noncredit training classes' student learning objectives and course descriptions when requested by the AT department. The focus of the reviews will be focused upon alignment with credit program, as well as to meet the needs of students and industry
  • Serve as AT Department representative when requested by the AT Department Chair to assist DWED to resolve issues based on CSN policy and procedures involving credit and noncredit instructors, staff, students, and partner agencies
  • Serve as AT Department representative when requested by the Department Chair to assist DWED on questions of monitoring student admissions, attendance, and completion of noncredit program and transition to credit program.


Other duties will include program assessment and curriculum development; student advising and mentoring; scholarship of teaching and learning- upholding professional and ethical standards; outreach to the college, community, and profession; supervising student assistants and staff as necessary; and duties as assigned by the Program Director and or Department Chair.

The candidate is expected to participate in department, and college wide committees, as well as student recruitment activities. The candidate will participate and assist the team to maintain and develop strong industry and community partnerships, within and outside of the program advisory committee. They will also commit to continuing their professional development as an educator through attendance to industry conferences and membership of professional associations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field from a regionally accredited College or University.
  • 2 years teaching experience in Career and Technical Education.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Fifteen or more years of work experience in industry.
  • Three years of experience teaching in Career and Technical Education.
  • Current or past FAA certifications as a pilot and Part 107.
  • Experience teaching on-line/hybrid classes.
  • Experience working in diverse multicultural situations.


Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master's degree the salary range would be $46,691 to $58,364 annually. The entire salary range is up to $70,038 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years' experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
