The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Physical Education/Kinesiology, Head Coach, Men's Soccer, De Anza College.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ATHLETICS DIVISION:

This position is responsible for both teaching and coaching in the Physical Education and Athletics Division. The successful applicant will serve part of their assignment in the athletics department and part of their assignment in the kinesiology department. Division of duties are expected to be approximately 50/50, though exact percentages are determined by the division dean on a quarterly and/or annual basis. The Division houses kinesiology activity courses that support the health and wellness of our diverse student population through physical activity. There are lecture courses (face to face and online) that support transfer students and those who wish to further their knowledge about the discipline and/or to attain certifications in Massage Therapy or Coaching. The athletics department hosts one of the largest programs in the State and offers 19 sports. This Division is seeking employees interested in supporting the goals of the College Mission and core values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Under the direction of the Dean of Physical Education and Athletics:

Manage the Men's Intercollegiate Soccer team:

  • Coaching
  • Develop an off-season conditioning and strength program
  • Scheduling
  • Arrange for travel, travel with and/or drive student-athletes to off-campus events.
  • Hold a California State Class"B" driver's license.
  • Actively recruit and scout by fostering and nurturing relationships with club and high school coaches within the College's recruiting areas.
  • Budget
  • Fundraising
  • Supervision of the coaching staff

Support the educational goals of the student-athlete:

  • Actively engage as a member of college's team of professionals who support the onboarding, financial aid needs, and academic progress of each student-athlete.
  • Actively engage in assisting student-athletes in the four-year transfer process.
  • Provide opportunities for students to engage in civic and community support activities.

Stay current in the following areas:

  • All conference, California Community College, NCAA, NAIA rules and guidelines.
  • By attend department, conference, NorCal and State meetings.
  • And abide by all Federal and State regulations.
  • By maintaining a current California State Class B driver's license.
  • Certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid and Emergency Procedures.

Teach a variety of Physical Education/Kinesiology activity courses from the following families of courses:

  • Aquatics
  • Cardiovascular Fitness
  • Combatives
  • Cross Training
  • Flexibility and Stability
  • Individual Sports
  • Physical Meditation
  • Strength Development
  • Team Sports
  • Motor Development

Maintain active involvement with student activities, sports promotion and Athletic Department fundraising events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education, OR bachelor's degree in any of the above AND master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience teaching a variety of physical education/kinesiology activity courses with emphasis on courses in the following families: Physical Meditation, Combatives, Flexibility and Stability at a community college or university level.
  2. Two years of soccer coaching experience at the high school, college or professional level.
  3. Experience with incorporating instructional technology or multimedia instructional applications in order to meet diverse student needs.
  4. Soccer coaching license(s)
  5. Experience working with student of diverse skill levels, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  6. Successful experiences working within an environment requiring communication between students and colleagues.
  7. Successful experience(s) providing leadership in athletics.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold or have the ability to attain and maintain certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid and Emergency Procedures.
  2. Hold or have the ability to and maintain a State of California Class B Driver's license.

The successful applicant will be required to provide proof of possession of a current State of California Class B Driver's license before employment begins.
