Primary Duties:
Under immediate supervision of the Lead Groundsworker or Supervisor, and occasional direction of the Grounds Manager, the Groundsworker performs general gardening work and maintains the grounds in assigned areas of campus.

Required Education:

One year of experience in the care of maintenance of landscaped areas or in general grounds maintenance work, or in related manual labor.

Special Requirements:

California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check/and or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.

The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. The incumbent will perform physical work consistent with landscape and grounds maintenance for extended periods. In order to complete assignments, the incumbent will regularly lift, move, pull, push, stretch, reach, kneel, squat, climb ladders and stairs. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to travel across campus to other buildings and areas on campus. Must work consistently outdoors in the summer and winter.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed outdoors during all seasons, incumbent will experience hot, cold, windy and rainy weather. Will require lifting, moving, clean-up, trash pick-up, leaf raking, utilizing grounds related equipment and hand tools. Working surfaces are even and uneven and include grass, dirt, gravel, cement, mud, in wet and dry conditions. Will work in and around hedges, trees, grass, bushes, creek-side environments, planting areas and athletic field areas. May come in contact with herbicides and other chemicals or green spray and fertilizers. Will work around noisy equipment such as mowers and blowers. Work environment may be congested at times, and maintaining awareness of surroundings in regards to common safety practices is required.
