Full-Time, Temporary LMS Migration Specialist

This is a Full-Time, Temporary Position

The Migration Specialist is a support role for the American Public University System Learning Management System (LMS) migration project. The Specialist will execute content migration tasks as we transition course content from our legacy LMS to our future LMS. Personnel for this position will be active through December 2020 (or until the completion of the migration project). The specialist will be a primary resource for completing pre-defined migration tasks, scrubbing' content (removing unnecessary or harmful formatting code from web documents), tagging content with metadata, and using a series of custom tools to move material from one system to another in bulk.

The successful candidate will work in a team environment and migrate content between LMS systems with a high degree of efficiency and attention to detail. As unexpected issues or breaks from protocol occur, the specialist will communicate with all necessary stakeholders to mitigate risk or failure points.

Essential Functions:
  • Executes documented migration tasks, moving content to a new environment while adhering to known best practices.
  • Assists in documenting and maintaining issue registers, migration task aids, and training resources.
  • Reports issues and trends; escalates issues as appropriate for timely resolution.
  • Evaluates migrated content for formatting and configuration deficiencies and repairs as needed.
  • Communicates with stakeholders to address any post-migration content concerns.
  • Assists with bug tracking and documenting application issues.
  • Formats Content using a rich text editor.
  • Carries out structured assignments.
  • Solves routine and standard problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Standard office environment in Charles Town, WV.
  • Must be able to work a five-day schedule during core business hours of 8:00 am - 8:30 pm.

Required Skills:
  • Working knowledge of Web-based applications, including advanced understanding of functionality in online productivity suites (e.g., Google Docs, Office 365, WYSIWYG text editors).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and excellent communication skills required.
  • Ability to regularly meet deadlines and switch between diverse tasks smoothly.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic, expanding environment, both with and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to learn the fundamentals of Learning Management Systems (LMS) in use at the school.
  • Ability to follow established workflows.
  • Accurate reporting skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills.
  • Foundational knowledge of HTML.

Required Education and Experience:
  • A high degree of technical literacy.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Highly experienced with composing content in online applications using WYSIWYG editors.
  • Some experience with HTML and CMS.
  • Some college level education.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
  • Advanced HTML code familiarity.
  • Web Design Experience.
  • Instructional Design Experience.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous experience in an online education-focused environment or learning management system.
