Full Job Description:
Overview of Engineering at USF

USF is developing an innovative, forward-looking engineering school, grounded with an interdisciplinary undergraduate program beginning in Fall 2020, and followed by a professionally-oriented graduate program shortly thereafter. The new engineering program will develop engineers that are creative problem solvers with the vision, empathy, and humanistic perspective that comes with a Jesuit liberal arts education, and the strong technical skills required in the modern era of engineering. The curriculum is being designed with feedback from San Francisco Bay Area local industry and community leaders to ensure we graduate students with cutting-edge technical and professional skills.

We are constructing a program that heavily emphasizes project-based learning and interdisciplinary, team-based, experiential education, a significant part of which will be facilitated and executed in state-of-the art engineering laboratory spaces, which we term the USF Innovation Hive.

Applicant qualities

We are looking for an individual with a passion for working with students in a hands-on environment and who is excited by the prospect of being part of the development of a new engineering program. • Support faculty during the academic year in developing demonstrations, projects, and cutting edge teaching environments representing current best practices in engineering education.
  • Oversee the fabrication space and all aspects of teaching labs, and manage support staff, including student workers.
  • Oversee safety of fabrication space and labs, including student independent project areas.
  • Partner with the College's Lab Safety Manager to develop protocols, trainings and procedures for safe and responsible usage of all lab space and equipment.
  • Lead co-curricular instruction sessions, courses, workshops, and other venues on use of equipment, software, and other skills needed to succeed in the Engineering program.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to create laboratory exercises for undergraduate engineering classes.
  • Monitor teaching laboratory and project-related budgets and be responsible for procurement. Ensure equipment is maintained and up-to-date.

    Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following characteristics:
  • A terminal degree in an engineering discipline or appropriate related field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Strong organizational and budget management skills and able to work in diverse situations with demanding deadlines. Able to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
