Position Description
The Director of Development is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive program for securing external support for departments within the Division of Student Affairs. This individual will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual prospects and donors along with foundations and corporations who have the ability to make a philanthropic gift.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proven track record in fundraising along with the ability to raise funds for capital projects, comprehensive campaigns and a strong understanding of philanthropic project development. This position will collaborate extensively with the various units¿ leadership in securing gifts for the university. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with donors, community members, corporations, staff, peers, administrators, campus and University personnel, clients, state officials, vendors, professionals, management, etc. Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently without close supervision, but must work well in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Able to establish good working relationships with colleagues, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion. Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. Ability to speak in public. Ability to coordinate events/programs. 

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree and five years of demonstrated successful fundraising experience including donor cultivation and solicitation required. Master's degree and prior fundraising experience in an academic setting preferred. Higher education fundraising experience highly preferred. Proven experience with personal solicitations and donor stewardship activities.

Licenses / Certificates
CA Driver's License, Class C

Conflict of Interest
The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

All management and executive employees shall be required to provide a written statement to the appropriate administrator of any and all outside employment. Employees shall also provide a written statement of outside employment if a written request by an administrator is made.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
