DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
POSITION PROFILE:

The Director of Professional Development is a tenure-track faculty position that reports to the Associate Vice President of Instruction. It has leadership responsibilities for the college's professional development including program planning and evaluation, as well as resource allocation and accountability. The position is also a key leadership position that works primarily with teaching and non-teaching faculty to develop equity-based pedagogies, including instructional skills strategies and culturally responsive teaching. The position has teaching responsibility in the employee's academic discipline of up to .3750 FTEF (approximately one third of an annual teaching obligation), requires working several evenings during the year, and working some weekends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Instruction, develop, implement, promote and evaluate the college Professional Development program. Allocate professional development resources, including budgeting, management of professional development funds, and chairing the Staff Revitalization and Professional Conference Funds committee and Campus-Wide Professional Development committee.

Collaborate with the Senior Program Coordinator in the Office of Professional Development to develop, coordinate, implement, conduct, and evaluate:

  • Training programs developed in partnership with the Director of Office of Equity and Tenure Review Coordinator.
  • Orientation programs for new full-time faculty, classified staff, administrators, and part-time faculty.
  • First Year and Second Year Experience programs for new full-time tenure-track faculty and probationary classified staff.
  • Instructional Skills Workshop program and Basic Skills program for full- and part-time faculty.
  • Equal Opportunity, diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings developed in partnership with the Office of Equity.
  • Workshops in District-wide Seminar Series for part-time faculty.
  • Focus groups and small group facilitation.

Develop, coordinate, implement, and conduct workshops focused on effective practices of teaching and learning, such as collaborative learning, critical pedagogy, cultural responsiveness, learning styles, social-emotional learning, strengths-based learning, and classroom assessment. Serve as a resource to faculty in areas of pedagogical effectiveness, learning outcomes assessment, and creating welcoming classroom environments. Provide guidance and assessment to programs and initiatives requesting assistance with training and workshops.

Actively participate as a De Anza representative in regional, state and national professional development organizations. Consult with and regularly report to Academic Senate regarding faculty development. Collaborates with campus partners, in addition to professional development offices in other institutions and external organizations.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on district and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Three or more years demonstrated successful teaching experience in education environments in workshop development and facilitation.
  2. Demonstrate successful teaching experience using student-centered and equity-based pedagogies.
  3. Experience aligning professional development with institutional mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.
  4. Knowledge and application of adult learning principles.
  5. Experience working with employee job descriptions and how they pertain to professional development.
  6. Knowledge of current national and regional professional development trends and practices.
  7. Familiarity with curriculum development processes.
  8. Demonstrated success in working collegially and collaboratively with a diverse population, including employee categories, and career stages.
  9. Experience designing, facilitating, and co-facilitating trainings, workshops, and events.
  10. Experience with campus in-reach and developing campus partnerships.
  11. Experience with assessment techniques, including developing and conducting focus groups.
  12. Knowledge and experience with multiple forms of program review and evaluation.
  13. Knowledge and ability to apply social-emotional intelligence and to train others.
  14. Experience managing program budgets and grants.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 11-months per year

STARTING DATE: May 2016

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday, typically daytime hours, though some evening and weekend work is required.
