As part of our vision for a center of excellence in this discipline, we are growing our team with a new Digital Marketing Manager who will develop, manage, and track paid media campaigns using digital technologies to achieve growth objectives.

About the position

The incumbent will utilize paid channels such as Google, Facebook, and others to drive student growth, persist rates, social engagement, brand awareness, etc. This position will assist American Public Education Inc. (APEI) and its affiliates and reside within the paid media department, reporting to the Director, Media and Account Strategy.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for strategy and oversight of paid digital client campaigns, driving to growth objectives
  • Manages and optimize paid media strategies, including the development and execution of search, display and social campaigns utilizing new and emerging best practices
  • Plays an important role in defining the paid social media strategy and executing/optimizing paid Facebook and LinkedIn campaigns
  • Measures campaign metrics and KPIs (CPL, CPC, CTR, Conv Rate, etc.) for optimizations to increase client ROI; present results to clients
  • Continually update and align paid media strategies with new and emerging best practices to improve quality and efficiency
  • Collaborates with internal creative team, in-house writers, and project managers to produce effective promotional campaigns
  • Owns day-to-day vendor relationships; managing deliverables and implementations based on vendor recommendations
  • Remains up-to-date on emerging marketing trends and technologies, and help identify new and innovative ways to promote the university and other APEI clients
  • Strategically perform A/B tests; identify hypothesis, measure, report, and advice on future implementation of those learnings


Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • The opportunity can be performed remotely.
  • Requires high speed internet connection, a dedicated work space within place of residence, and the capability to telecommute.
  • Travel, as needed, to company office locations.


Required Skills:
  • Ability to build, manage, and optimize campaigns in Google Ads, Bing Ads, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads
  • Experience crafting and managing paid social media campaigns
  • Ability to create effective ad copy materials, which adhere to strict University standards and guidelines
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to optimize marketing ROI and performance
  • Advanced skills in Google Analytics and similar platforms
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead and support direct reports


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college required
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience such as search, display, and paid social media experience required
  • Must be self-sufficient and results-oriented, with strong hands-on marketing campaign management


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Agency experience highly desired
  • Experience in higher education
  • Familiarity with other digital marketing strategies including SEO, CRO, Social Media, etc.
  • High technical aptitude

Compensation & Benefits:
  • American Public Education, Inc. seeks to offer a competitive salary and benefit package. This opportunity pays between $70,000 and $90,000 annually commensurate with experience.
