Department: WellCat Counseling Center

Position Information:
California State University, Chico, Division of Student Affairs, invites applications for a full-time (non tenure-track) counselor faculty position in the Counseling and Wellness Center (Student Services Professional, Academic-Related).

This position also serves as the Program Coordinator for UMatter, the outreach arm of the Counseling Center which strives to increase awareness and promote healthy student interaction with mental health topics, decrease negative stigmas with mental health that can be a barrier to seeking assistance, and be a collaborative part of the campus community in supporting positive mental health practices through presentations, student outreach, partnering with other on-campus organizations, and providing resources.


Minimum Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated experience functioning at a high level as a generalist counselor in a diverse setting is required.
The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a PsyD or PhD. This position requires a valid California license as a psychologist (or eligibility for licensure in the state of California).


Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position:
Essential Functions:
- Provides initial clinical consultation, clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy to a diverse student population.
- Provides group counseling, both psychoeducational and process-oriented.
- Provides peer consultation, as well as consultation to University faculty and staff regarding concerns about students and the campus environment.
- Designs and implements psychoeducational programs and outreach activities for the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, campus organizations, related academic departments, and Student Affairs units.
- Coordinates the UMatter program, including supervision of all student assistants and interns, serving as primary liaison with other organizations, management of program finances and budget, and oversight of educational materials.
- Develops/participates in working relationships with other departments that share an interest in student wellness and personal development.
- Completes and maintains timely and accurate records.
- Performs additional professional services based on individual skills and interests consistent with the centers needs.
- Engages in professional development activities to maintain licensure/certification.
- When eligible (CA licensed 2 years), provides supervision to graduate students in the training program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of best practices in the field.
- Ability to work within a brief (3-6 session), non-weekly therapy framework.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population; ability to establish and maintain long-term relationships with non-student leadership of campus departments and off-campus organizations.
- Ability to advise management on program finances, budget, staffing, and related operational functions to meet programmatic goals.
- Ability to learn, interpret, follow, and apply a wide variety standard of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program.
- Ability to facilitate team meetings, including time for business related material and training of interns.
- Ability to continuously seek improvements in order to support the goals and strategic mission of the center.
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly as a part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and state regulations.


Recruitment Preferences:
Recruitment Preferences: Candidates with university/college counseling experience in the provision of crisis intervention, psychotherapy, outreach programming and consultation for a multi-cultural student population are preferred.

Education, training, and/or expertise in one or more of the following areas: sexual violence, substance use disorders, complex trauma, underserved populations including African American/Black, Latinx, first-generation students, student veterans, LGBTQ+, students with disabilities. Experience providing clinical supervision.
