Department: Law School Library

Campus/Location: Lincoln Center (LC) - NYC

Position Summary
The Collection Management Librarian leads efforts to identify, select, and provide access to electronic information sources as well as managing print serials and continuations and supervising support staff. This position also includes some reference responsibilities including library liaison assignments and reference desk coverage.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates the selection, acquisition, de-selection, and other aspects of collection development for the library, including co-chairing bi-weekly Acquisitions committee meetings.
  • Works with the Deputy Director, faculty, law school centers and institutes, and library staff to develop, expand, and enhance the librarys collection.
  • Leads interdepartmental library efforts to identify, select, and provide access to electronic resources, including collaboration with the University libraries and consortia.
  • Manages library online resources including setting up database trials, negotiating purchasing & licensing agreements, managing license compliance issue, and evaluating usage statistics.
  • Manages all aspects of serials and continuations activities, including the supervision of three full-time support staff.
  • Administers the serials and electronic resources module of the integrated library system.
  • Develops, maintains, and oversees vendor relations
  • Helps to develop and coordinate policies and procedures for the Technical Services department.
  • Provides reference assistance to law students, faculty, and administrators at the reference desk.
  • Serves as a library liaison to a limited number of law school faculty.
  • Teaches introductory legal research in a required first-year research course and may participate in teaching advanced legal research courses.
  • Develops an interest and proficiency in new and emerging law and library technologies.
  • Serves as the federal depository program designated contact.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Ability to work some evening, weekend, and holiday hours.


Required Qualifications:
  • M.L.S. or equivalent from an A.L.A, accredited library school.
  • J.D. from an A.B.A. accredited law school or equivalent non-U.S. law degree.
  • 1 year experience in an academic/law library is preferred; will train as necessary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with OCLC and MARC formats and knowledge of legal publishing industry.
  • Experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. systems and Serials Solutions.
