Job Description

WHO WE'RE SEEKING

Grossmont College seeks academic professionals who are dedicated to equitable and superior student success outcomes for all students. We are looking for candidates who will demonstrate a history and willingness to continue to learn about varied, relevant teaching and learning practices, assessment strategies, and educationally sound supports that will sustain a diverse and changing student body and college service area.

We seek colleagues who create positive, engaging learning and development environments in class and throughout the college that challenge and support students to aspire to, and achieve, their full potential.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Student Affairs this position will provide mental health services and mental health treatment, rapidly address crisis care situations, plan/implement programs and services to promote mental health wellness and suicide prevention for Grossmont College students. This position will consult and advise on complex matters, provide educational leadership, individual and group counseling as well as classroom teaching/ presentations. Serve as a consultant on mental health matters that may influence student behavior, motivation and learning process issues including mental illness, suicide, domestic violence, stalking and threats toward others. Serve on Behavioral Intervention Team, oversee and supervise mental health counselors and mental health interns. Provide professional training to students, faculty and staff. Design, implement and evaluate community health events, workshops, classroom teaching and other student health programs that promote wellness and enhance student's abilities to benefit from college.

Regular/contract counselors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population. Counselors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
  • Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development; OR
  • Bachelor's in any of the above and a license as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor; OR
  • OR The equivalent.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Training and experience working with individuals and groups in providing personal and crisis counseling
  • Ability to use technology in providing counseling services such as electronic medical records.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • A current California license as a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Clinical Psychologist or a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
  • Experience providing Psych/Educational Workshops planning, college success and other personal development courses at the post-secondary level.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience writing grant proposals.
